  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi All! I am curious what your thoughts are on vanity?

A lash extension place opened up across the street from my work about a year ago. Since then, everyday I walk by I become more tempted to schedule an appointment. I am curious how you think God feels about it?

To me it is similar to getting a hair cut, pedicure, eyes brows waxed, etc. There are many products available to both men and women to enhance our appearances. I would assume all attempts to improve appearance are created equal? And I would imagine most everyone reading this thread participates in some sort of product/practice/service that improves their appearance. If that's the case are we just a society lost in superficiality and vanity or is there a balance one can strike between improving appearance and still being 100% true to God?

Your thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Do you have a husband? If so, wanting to look good for him is not complete vanity, just wanting to please your husband...

If not, there is a balance, for example, God does not want you to never shower or bathe, or brush or fix your hair, or brush your teeth or use deodorant or even perfumes, or clip or fix or take care of your nails (fingers and toes) these are all matters of personal hygiene and God want's us to take care of ourselves and our bodies...

If your doing it for the reasons to feel good about yourself, and be presentable in public, I don't see anything wrong with it, all people, especially women, want to feel beautiful and attractive, especially women, it's in their nature...

As long as your doing it because it makes you feel good about yourself, in and of yourself, and not so as to try and "compete" with other women (that's when you can go overboard, and it becomes "vanity"), or to make yourself feel more "better" or "more beautiful" than someone else, so as to think your more beautiful or "better", or at least "better looking", than them, not to let your own beautification make you look down on others, or compare yourself to others, to say that your more beautiful or better than them...

The only thing I would say (personally for me, just my opinion) anyways that I would say is taking it too far is "plastic surgery", taking medical "risks" (no matter how minute the risk) is not something I think God would want you to do with your body, just for the sake of feeling more beautiful or attractive...

God Bless!
