  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What was Van Til's calvinist position? 4 point ,5 point, common grace etc....

Dr. Van Til was an ordained minster in the Orthodox Presbyterian Church from the 1930's until his death in 1987. The OPC, like most denominations, have certain requirements for membership, elders, deacons, and ministers. Among those requirements for ministers in the OPC is subscription/affirmation to the Westminster Standards. Two primary Calvinist confessions are the Westminster Confession of Faith and the London Baptist Confession.

Presbyterians are more than "5 pointers" (as are other 5 pointers), Presbyterians are Reformed. The Reformed Confessions include the "Three Forms of Unity" which includes The Canons of Dordt.

Dr. Van Til indeed held to "common grace", but one needs to read his writings to understand that the common grace he held to is not the same "common grace" others have proclaimed (even in the words of Dr. Van Til, "Kuyper’s view of common grace is to be criticized" and should be noted, Dr. Van highly esteemed Kuyper).
