CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Good for you,Blackribbon! In an emergency,the heroes are the ones who break the rules in order to get things done. Sometimes,the ends do justify the means.

As far a marriage at an older age...In society we have more and more people that are of not married now days. Plus men that have been in a bad marriage and/or paying alimony/child support are likely to be very skittish about getting involved again.

I only now have seen this question. I don't see very many DNRs period. I would be sad to see a DNR on a healthy person because it would be hard to stand back and not save someone who I believed could be saved and still have a life with quality. I have seen a few people who signed that in the hospital but I don't think the Residents really explained it properly...some were in for simple things like a colonoscopy and had children living at home. That DNR would prevent us from restarting a heart when it stopped for a fuke thing like an allergic reaction to the anesthetic.
I am more likely to NOT see DNRs on people who are so old and frail that my first compression would break their ribs, hurt them tremendously, and really...kill them. I have a current non-verbal patient whose whole body is so contracted (permanent state) that I don't know that I could even get to her sternum to attempt CPR and she is a "Full code". This is a decision based on a family that isn't going to let her die in dignity. Her family has also denied us using pain killers (including Tylenol) on her because they don't want her "all drugged up"...but if you saw the wounds I have to dress (and smelled them), you'd understand why I am upset. The patient can't talk but I see her grinding her teeth, her breathing going noisy, her eyes get an "evil eye" look, and she pinches anyone who gets close enough to her hands for her to grab onto whenever we change her dressings. She feels pain, I am sure of it.
