  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Utopia is an imaginary and ideal country,
a place of ideal perfection especially in laws, government, and social conditions.

* do not feel like you need to answer quickly *

What would your Utopia consist of?
We had to write this up as a paper in Civics class back in 9th grade.
I do not remember what I wrote back then.

Maybe for Singles it would include...
all persons of opposite sex would give you the time of day
or getting from one place to another was only a matter of minutes thru transporter.

How about a place that has lots of space to explore, and the ability to be able to do that exploration.

I like that teleportation idea. It could be good for those times, both when you want to be in the company of others, and when you also want to get out and away from people.

Also, wouldn't it be great if animals no longer feared us, but were friends with us.

In Utopia I wouldn't be single! lol I would be married to a tall, cute, wonderful Christian man who would love me as Christ loves the church. I would be getting a puppy from him for Christmas. And, I would have a pretty little house with a yard in the back and I would have a big screen tv with Tivo on it. And we would just have this great marriage with lots of sex:blush: (which means we'd probably be havin a lil one soon lol)...hehe hope I can say that! Let me know if I need to edit it since ya'll always do anyway. :holy:

In my Utopia, money wouldn't an issue. Insurance was free!! And I would be married and have little ones, have the perfect life I have been dreaming and planning for forever. And if I was already married the insurance thing would get worked out too, wouldn't have to pay a huge bundle each month just for myself!

This is going to be a somewhat abstract thought, but as I'm thinking about this question I have to say I'm there but I fail to recognize it. I'm sure I could name places I'd rather be, other things I'd rather be doing, or people I'd rather be with (no offence to ya'll). But despite the stain of sin on my life and the world that surrounds me, I know I'm where God has put me right now and I can't ask for a better place to be. I see God working in my life and the lives of people around me. I see Him taking me places that I haven't dreamed of, better than what I could ask for. He is bringing some incredible people into my life that I'm really enjoying. Life is an adventure right now and I'm grateful for that. I'm not saying everything in my life is perfect, my heart aches to find Ms. Right and there's a list a mile long that I'd love to change about myself and the world, but I know Jesus is at work on that. So I have to say that I'm in my utopia, I just need to have the faith to see it that way.

CS Lewis wrote a passage in "The Great Divorce" that really struck me deep. I'll share it:

'Son,' he said, 'ye cannot in your present state understand eternity: when Anodos looked through the door of the Timeless he brought no message back. But ye can get some likeness of it if ye say that both good and evil, when they are full grown, become retrospective. Not only this valley but all their earthly past will have been Heaven to those who are saved. Not only the twilight in that town, but all their life on Earth too, will then be seen by the damned to have been Hell. That is what mortals misunderstand. They say of some temporal suffering, "No future bliss can make up for it," not knowing that Heaven, once attained, will work backwards and turn even that agony into a glory. And of some sinful pleasures they say "Let me have but this and I'll take the consequences": little dreaming how damnation will spread back and back into their past and contaminate the pleasure of the sin. Both processes begin even before death. The good man's past begins to change so that his forgiven sins and remembered sorrows take on the quality of Heaven: the bad man's past already conforms to his badness and is filled only with dreariness. And that is why, at the end of all things, when the sun rises here and the twighlight turns to blackness down there, the Blessed will say "We have never lived anywhere except in Heaven," and the Lost, "We were always in Hell." And both will speak truly.'

That passage to me speaks a great deal of truth. Though there is pain and suffering and a longing for Home now, these things work for God's Glory. While I can dream of better places and better times (we must hold onto hope), I have to choose to find good in the place I am now and trust that God has me where He wants me and for His purpose. I think if I can learn that then I'll understand contentment.

I say these things not that I feel them and have no doubt, I'm seeking the faith to believe these things.

Transporters would be in everyone home.

Since I value friendship so much I would like the transporter to be able to spend time in person with friends.

That could even mean meeting CFers in person.
Get your bread machine out Keil! You did invite us over for a meal.
Wildthing also invited us over for a movie night.

Also because of the transporter living in the climate you want would be possible
because you could use the transporter to get to work.

Because of the transporter there would be little need for gas guzzlers therefore alleviating the reason to go to most wars.

Also there would be no illness or pain.

Utopia for me is a Joseph Beth bookstore. I can spend hours and hours in there and the whole world just seems to disappear. :) Any problems I have just melt away. And since the only one I have been in is where my best friend lives, that makes it even better because that means that I am spending time with my life long friend while I am there! And there is a coffee shop upstairs with a huge fireplace that I can park myself in front of and never leave.....

*That's just off the top of my head, I'll be back later with a more thought out answer. :D I do like the transporter idea too. That would have come in very handy several times in my life.....:sigh:

My utopia would be to have corner office on a high floor over looking the city. In this office, I'd have the perfect trading station set up. Bloomberg terminal, multiple streaming quotes, analysts private lines, and CNBC begging me to do an interview. I'd want a girl who is as nuts about trading as me. And smarter than me. (Kinda like Karen Cramer did for Jim Cramer in his early years).

Hmmm - sounds like heaven, not a transporter.

As for the bread machine, it's taking a nap. I am working on a new 2000 peice puzzle, though, and we could get spaghetti from Fazoli's. :^)

Puzzles are great - every peice connected is a small victory. That means that a 2000 peice puzzle in its box is the same as 1999 potential victories.
