  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yes.... I have had more than one while pregnant.... now every time I think it might be different when I go potty I run out and buy a big container of 100% cranberry juice and down the whole thing within 24 hours.... that way if I am developing one I can catch and make it disappear before its a full UTI.... I like to avoid the antibiotics if I can because that inevitably leads to me getting a yeast infection because antibiotics do that, especially while pregnant. My 2nd pregnancy was pretty plagued by both of these things.

I get my urine tested for stuff ever ob appointment...

its almost certain they're testing for protein in your urine but aren't doing a UTI test, I've never heard of that one being done routinely.... I have a urine test each visit too, they're looking for protein which is an indication of pre-e something much more serious

She put me on Microbid which is strictly for UTI's. I've never taken it because I've never had one. So I had no clue what to notice as signs either. I just know I didn't have pain when urinating which is a major sign I read. Also, the results were from a U/A culture they did when I went for my bloodwork. I was wondering that last night why when I went to the doc Wed. why they didn't tell me I had one when I gave my sample. Guess you have to tell them if you suspect a UTI so they can do some other kinda test.

The dip stick that they use to test the urine will indicate if there are certain things in the urine that are uti's.

It is a long stick with different squares on it that change colour when they react to different things. Nitrates, biliruiben, blood, protien, etc the whole lot. High levels of nitrates indicate a UTI.

If they suspected a uti based on the levels of nitrates from your UA (the dipstick) which is probable, they would have sent the sample away to see if they could "grow" something, which is why it takes a while. If something is "grown" - a bacteria then it is a confirmation of the initial result.

Hmm it only took 2 days to get my results back so I don't know. I guess the dipstick was enough to say I had one. I hope so anyway. It would not be good if I'm taking this med for nothing.
