Once in a while, we have 'extreme' worship times in our meetings

and anyway, my fellow worshippers are used to me letting forth with war cries of some considerable decibels whilst I'm using the flags!!!!

Just fancied getting one and using it when it was appropriate (but not without seeking the pastor's permission beforehand, of course!)

I'm gonna step up and show how much i don't know, what is a shofar? I've never heard of it.

Thanks!

A shofar is also refered to as a rams horn
In the bible when you read blow the trumpet they are refering to a shofar.

The shofar was used as a declaration of war. When the enemy was spotted the shofar was sounded to declare war. Today it still used as a declaration of was but not physical war spiritual war

The shofar is the trumpet spoken of in Revelation.

In Israel in May, two sisters brought shofars (the smaller ones - still hard to blow) and blew them as we entered into extreme worship! One night in Jaffa, lightening came out of them as they were blown. It will knock your socks off and throw you to the floor. Awesome in it's true sense!

Definitely the shofar belongs in worship. Let the men blow it if they will and the women blow it if they won't. Remember Deborah!

Oh by the way I'm a flagger too. And a singing dancer. God is great and we are priveledged to worship him!

:amen: to that sister!
Had a truly intense worship this morning - 'Dancing Generation' and 'Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble' amongst others!
Came home and slept for 4 hours! But now I feel great!

Thank you for your quick respones (especially the picture.)

Now that i know what it is by all means i think you should use it in worship. Everyone has different ways they choose to worship the Lord and if you feel called to do this then go with it!

I have never seen anyone use flags before, this may sound a little weird but it there somewhere online you know of that i can see it done?

God Bless!

"Shofar Christian Church"

How about that :)

Woo! That's great! How often is the shofar sounded in your church?

You could look at my website. There was also a short vid. clip of Andy Au (a well known flag worshipper/dancer in the UK) but when I just checked their w/s just now, they are reconstructing it. I suggest you check http://www.andyau.creators.co.uk/ from time to time to see when it's up and running.

Well the name of the church "Shofar" is chosen because
of the "prophetic" significance of that.
See in OT the shofar was blown before war... and offcourse other uses.

The shofar is blown fairly little in the church itself, i do remember them using it in like the Feast of Tabernacles. (btw we don't do christmas/easter in our church but we do feast of tabernacles ect !!! )
The shofar is used much more in other ministry places, like on missions or things like that.
In bible school they used to blow it at the end of break :D don't know if that still happens.

Of course, the Shofar is a very masculine instrument, because it is an instrument of war. In ancient Israel, you'd probably have a hard time finding a woman behind a shofar, because those who blew one were usually either soldiers or priests.

But I really don't think Yahweh cares if a woman blows a shofar. He's not going to strike you down for it, and sisters are soldiers in Messiah as well as brothers--to us, the shofar is of traditional and spiritual significance only, and is no longer an instrument of warfare in the flesh. But there are certain implications that go along with certain beliefs that a person might hold to--For instance, if you are of the belief that the shofar is to be blown by the bishop as a tradition before and after service, and if you are of the belief that the bishop is not to be a woman, then naturally a woman is not going to be blowing the shofar before and after service. Two and two make four. But is there some *spiritual ban* on a woman placing her lips upon a shofar? Maybe there is--if you think there is a spiritual ban on a woman wearing pants.

HBMBT - thank you for this very cogent and sensible contribution! On reading it, I began to wonder why I had felt obliged to ask the question in the first place!

Well, I do feel the Lord is telling me to use a shofar in our meetings - maybe not often, but He's definitely speaking to me on this. There have been so many other 'co-incidences' you end realising they're not co-incidences! Hallelujah!
