Using a scanner as a camera

This was an assignment we had in our photoshop class. The object of the assignment was to create an image using our scanner in place of a camera. I found it to be rather fun and I thought it might be fun for others to do, so I'd like to invite anyone who feels like playing to post an image they want to create as well.

I titled this image "All For The Love of Job"

The black gloves symbolize suffering
The white lace in the background symbolizes purity
The glasses symbolize knowledge

I tried to do this with my scanner held behind a 4X5 camera, but couldn't get it to focus. Did you just hold the scanner by itself?

Everything is laying on the scanner, just like you would scan anything. Think of it as an exercize in composition.

This is another image done on my scanner:

My daughter found this moth in our yard. We were taking it to the butterfly house, but it died before we got there. She was very upset, so I suggested that we create a memorial for it. She collected things that she thought the moth would like and we arranged them on the scanner, but a wooden box over top and scanned it into our computer. She's very happy to have this.

I thought it was fun. I imagine one could do something really nice with a good quality scanner.

I've never done this, but I've always seen that it provides interesting results.
