US Is an Oligarchy Not a Democracy, says Scientific Study

by Eric Zuesse Published on Monday, April 14, 2014 by Common Dreams
A study, to appear in the Fall 2014 issue of the academic journal Perspectives on Politics, finds that the U.S. is no democracy, but instead an oligarchy, meaning profoundly corrupt, …’

The U.S., in other words, is basically similar to Russia or most other dubious "electoral" "democratic" countries. We weren't formerly, but we clearly are now. Today, after this exhaustive analysis of the data, “the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.” That's it, in a nutshell.

Well if you will allow legal bribery of politicians...

We're not even a Democracy, we're a "Republic"

A republic is a type of democracy. I've never understood why some Americans don't like the word democracy. Who's been telling you this stuff?

What! Nonsense. We are a democracy. After all, it is a free country.

Until you run for office, then it takes money. And to stay in office, it takes money. And to pass laws, it takes money.

In short, if you have money, getting things passed is easier then if you didn't have money. Which can be argued to be an Oligarchy.

And if you don't have money, there are many corporations which will gladly give you the neccessary funds, if you'd just take this time to listen to their 5 good arguments why this and this law should/shouldn't be passed, no pressure.

The US government is a buyers market.

I'm not really conservative, but I learned it in my 10th Grade U.S History class.

A democracy infers majority rules without consideration of the constitution.

Well that was wrong, if it said the US wasn't a democracy (it isn't a direct democracy though). The US is a representative constitutional democracy. :)
