• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

JC’s Girls San Diego
JC's Girls is a ministry dedicated to reaching out to women who are, and have been involved in the Adult Entertainment Industry. Our purpose is to minister to these women, at whatever stage they are in life, in love, and without condemnation. The women who serve in the JC's Girls ministry come from all walks of life. Some have been in the Adult Entertainment Industry, and others haven't. The commonality is that every woman involved in JC's Girls felt called by the Holy Spirit to reach out to women that are in bondage by the Adult Entertainment Industry.

Currently, JC's Girls meets bi-monthly for Bible study, and we go out to strip clubs in San Diego twice a month to minister to Dancers. It is our desire to minister to these women, invite them to The Rock, encourage them to find their way out of the Industry, and lead them into the arms of Jesus. Other aspects of the JC's Girls Ministry Include:

*Group Home Outreach-Ministering to Teenage Girls
*Exodus-Providing resources for women looking to exit the Industry
*Counseling
*Web Love Letters-Reaching out in love to Escorts and Prostitutes that advertise on the web
*Prayer Team-Prayer Warriors that pray together while the Outreach Teams are in the Strip Clubs

Sex Industry Survivors Anonymous
http://sexindustrysurvivors.com/main.htm

Voices for Justice is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping survivors of sexual exploitation. Sex Industry Survivors Anonymous, founded in 1997, is one of the programs in the Voices for Justice Network (www.VFJNW.org).
Often we are a first point of contact through our 800 number hotline to individuals that are trying get out and stay out of the sex industry. In order to help get the word out to survivors, and at the same time coordinate the development of Sex Industry Survivor groups, Voices for Justice is announcing OPERATION SILVER BRAID. Please click on the link provided to find out more about the SILVER BRAID, and how you can help (www.TheSilverBraid.org).

. We wish to de-glamorize the sex industry. There is nothing glamorous about winding up stuffed in a dumpster, raped, dehumanized, and treated like a piece of meat.
We believe that it doesn’t matter how long you did it, how you earned it, how much you got paid, or how long you have been out of it. We believe that the sex industry violates basic human rights: the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We do not believe it is a victimless crime. Everyone loses, both the prostituted individual, and the perpetrator.

Using our own resources in partnership with other community programs, we assist each individual in her attempt to build a new life. In return, the participant must show an honest commitment to change and a willingness to make the efforts required of her. Escaping the "sex for sale" lifestyle is not easy. Lexington
Bruised Reed - Jani Lewis
In 2005, three women discovered they shared a desire to bring a light to some of Lexington's darkest places by reaching out to women who work in local strip clubs. After much prayer, they felt their plan was simple: take food and gifts to exotic dancers who, like the woman at the well, are frequently ignored, humiliated and belittled.

Inspired by Christ, and the way He always met the physical need before the spiritual need, the three women began taking meals twice a month to one small club, and they were amazed at how quickly they were accepted by the employees. Now they deliver hot, home-cooked meals to five clubs, ministering to about 175 people every week. Bruised Reed took its name from Matthew 12:20 (NIV): A bruised reed He will not break, and a smoldering wick He will not snuff out, till He leads justice to victory. The goal of the ministry is for the women working in these clubs to know we care and can provide a safe place for them to come with their questions and problems.

Prayer Team
The Bruised Reed Ministry is forming a team of individuals interested in meeting periodically to lift up this ministry in corporate prayer. Are you interested in being part of this team? Contact Jani Lewis.

Fallen Back Catholics Apostolate
In 2006, my husband and I launched our nonprofit organization, Fallen Back Catholic Apostolate.
OUR MISSION
To help men and women suffering from addiction to drugs, alcohol, and inappropriate contentography, to minister to those working in the sex industry, the incarcerated, and all those in bondage to sin by sharing with them the Good News of Jesus Christ and the teachings and tradition of the Roman Catholic Church
To bring fallen-away Catholics back to the Church, restoring them to a state of grace and encouraging them to become true disciples of Christ, conducting lives of charity, obedience, purity, heroic virtue, and holiness
Evangelization: to educate non-Catholics about the Roman Catholic faith with the goal of inspiring them to enter the Catholic Church as well.
To promote the spread of the Gospel through public speaking, writing, publishing, internet video, films, and other media
Everything we offer through our apostolate is in fidelity to the authentic Magisterium, or teaching authority, of the Roman Catholic Church, and to its Supreme Pontiff, the Bishop of Rome, his holiness Pope Benedict XVI.
All the proceeds from the sale of our book, A Boy From Cape Cod, go towards the of support our apostolate. Go to www.aboyfromcapecod.com to learn more about our book, which is due to be published in January 2007.

the staff at New Friends New Life is here to guide you through the process of change. Our staff will walk with you on your journey toward establishing a new life, because you are important to us!
Whether you’ve been dancing in clubs, working as an escort, or other forms of sex work, we understand and are here to help you. We’ve been doing this for a while and have heard just about everything there is to hear about the sex industry. When you come to one of our Wednesday night meetings, you will find a room full of women who have experienced similar struggles as you. Women, who like you, desire a new and fulfilling life. Our Wednesday night support group is an open and honest environment where you can be yourself without fear of judgment or condemnation – an environment of encouragement, love and accountability.
So, if you’re ready to start a new life, we hope you will move beyond your fears and give us a call. You’ll work hard, but we’ll be there to help you. If you’ll stick with it, you can make it and you’ll make it with the help of other women, many of whom have walked in your shoes and understand.

StreetLight Support Services is a community based, non-profit organization, created to provide alternatives for individuals involved in Sex Trade activities. StreetLight uses a holistic non-judgmental approach that recognizes the interdependence of the emotional, cultural, economic and broader social issues that impact on individuals.

To help anyone who wants to exit the Sex Trade Industry based on a peer model, staff and community volunteers. To build a foundation of community support, counselor support and volunteer support aimed at assisting Sex Trade Workers to exit the lifestyle. To establish a cooperative relationship with the Police Services in order to educate frontline officers to the needs of Sex Trade Workers. To set up an innovative model that could be used by other municipalities that rely on peer support as an effective intervention strategy for supporting Sex Trade Workers that want to exit the lifestyle. To work with community groups in a supportive capacity rather than a “not in my backyard” reaction. To assist other organizations to help and identify this issue and to align their services so that they are accessible and relevant to Sex Trade Workers.

StreetLight supports women, men and transgender individuals involved in any level and any capacity of the Sex Trade who wish to exit the industry or contemplate a lifestyle change. While many of our clients are diverted to StreetLight through the courts for sex trade offences our services are available to any Sex Trade Worker.

crossroads

Crossroads offers alternatives, support, and hope to children and adults involved in prostitution and at risk of sexual exploitation.
Persons involved in prostitution are subjected to terrible violence and abuse, physical and mental illness, drug and alcohol addiction, criminal persecution, poverty and homelessness.
The average age of entry into prostitution is 16, although children have been exploited as young as 11. Many come from homes where there was emotional, physical, or sexual abuse.
Crossroads works through:
  • street and community outreach - Working directly on the streets and within the community, Crossroads program workers become familiar with individuals engaging in prostitution. Staff provide information on sex offenders, safety and health; counselling and referrals; emergency food and clothing.
  • support and follow-up - Crossroads staff offer ongoing support with people they meet and with past residents of our housing services. Services provided include such things as: support in court or at hospitals; help in finding housing, schooling or employment; connection and access to public or community services; and assistance with recovery and healing from sexual exploitation.
  • housing - Our housing services provide residents with stability and the supports necessary to address issues that lead to prostitution and/or homelessness. Up to 10 beds in shared accommodations at Crossroads House and Crossroads Too are available offering safe and supportive housing to youth, women, and single mothers with children who are homeless and want help to exit prostitution . Three long-term affordable housing units are available to families ready for independent housing at Crossroads Duplex.
Crossroads also works actively with other E4C housing programs such as Elizabeth House and the Home for Healing to meet the need for housing for persons involved in prostitution.
Each year Crossroads means support, safety, and hope to over 500 youth and adults trapped in the abuse, health risks, and exploitation involved with prostitution. 5-10 percent are children. Program activities are funded through government, community and United Way support.

The Hope Foundation

HOPE FOUNDATION exists to bring hope, help and healing to the hurting people of the nation, based in Brisbane, primarily women in the areas of addiction and those caught in the sex industry - both those involved and their loved ones.
MISSION STATEMENT:
Bring liberty to addicts and sex workers through consistent Christ-centred connection and care.
The Hope Foundation attends to women and their children who are seeking shelter from and want to be rehabilitated from alcohol and drug addiction or to exit the sex industry. This target group has been identified to provide relief for those suffering and those in distress. There are currently no organisations in Brisbane or in many other places in Australia, who provide the same assistance to people within this target group. The aim of the Foundation is to offer practical help by filling individuals with hope and directing them to healing.
The Foundation exists to give people suffering and in distress the opportunity to have a better way of life by helping them renew their minds and offering them true freedom through specialised programs and follow-up care.
The Foundation has been established to benefit society by assisting those that are currently a cost to society and re-training and re-teaching them skills in how to live, thrive and flourish. In turn it is anticipated that each person can become a contributing part of the community.
It is believed by Bronwen Healy, the founder of the Foundation, that every person deserves an opportunity to start anew. They believe that through their future rehabilitation programs and drop-in centres the Foundation will make this a reality for many people that are currently in distress and suffering.
