• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Update on the incentive/stimulus

Does anyone call it incentive? It's stimulus in general, from what I understand, though I guess in a metaphorical sense, it's an incentive, I'll be spending some of it, but I'm very frugal, particularly because I'm still unemployed.

But budgeting that, and the $600 from February (which I only just got a notice from the IRS even though it was in my bank account before March) towards therapy and such is my general plan, practicality over leisure unless I can save significant money (Amazon offers good deals, for instance, $4 DVDs on occasion, etc)

Mine’s hitting the bank account on Tuesday. I’m considering it hazard pay since my workplace never shut down and half of my coworkers got the virus. Most of it’s going toward a new dad car (it’s just horribly undignified schlepping a baby around in a mustang) when the baby comes, but I’ll be having a little fun in the meantime as well.

incentive is quoted
Not if you don't actually do it, nuance like that is not communicated online. If you said air quotes before it, sure, but without that, I see no reason to conclude, "Oh, they're being sarcastic"

I don't know why you are having a problem. Everyone including the press and the president calls it INCENTIVE. If you don't like it take it up with them. I am only the messenger.

Perhaps you assume I have my eyes glued to the news, esp. TV news, but I don't recall ever hearing it called incentive even when we got the 1st one last year or the one a few months ago, it was directly called a stimulus.

By all means, cite some sources, it seems like that was just a turn of phrase by the journalists (the words are technically synonymous, so that's something new I learned, I thought they were a bit more nuanced than that)
