I left the Air Force in August 2006, lived the civilian life for a year, then joined the Army in September 2007.

Went to Warrior Transition Course, Infantry OSUT, Airborne, ended up at RIP pending but I cannot WAIT to get off of Fort Benning. Kinda sick of this post :p

Hope everyone is well, I'm still blundering my way through all these new options on the site.

Hey guy,

Just ETS'ed myself. Word of advice, if you don't find RIP to your likeing ( No one does ) and for some reason get bounced, try to get into the 82nd Airborne. You can get Ranger school faster and get some Team Leader time, then when you make E-5, apply for ROP ( Ranger Orientation Program ) which is a lot easier then RIP.

E-5s go to RIP now too.

Yuck

Still, a Tabbed E-5 would have a heck of a better time in RIP then your poor cherry fresh from BAC.

I wouldn't mind NC...I have a lot of friends there, plus my first duty station in the Air Force was Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, so it'd be familiar territory.

It's an excellent option. A lot of times, RIP is unfair simply becuase there are too many qualfied recruits for the limited number of slots available. So, if you get hurt or screwed on the PT test, don't let it get you down, you can always come back as an NCO with more qualifications and have an easier time.

Tabbed ones have it the worst. The cadre intentionally "fail" them on PT tests at RIP pending to see if they can make them quit. The mind games started as soon as we arrived from Airborne.

Just check my AKO, no orders yet. Appearently 11Bs aren't needed in the Army :(

Really?...man things change. I breezed through RIP as a Tabbed E-4, but that is was in early 05'. However, how much your MOS is needed is going to dictate if you get in or not.

Thats the madness of it, they allow boat loads of Privates to ship in when Regiment only needs a handful of 11Bs at the time, so all those guys get tortured for months for no real reason.

Man I'm glad I ETS'ed.....

Naw, units like 10th Mountian, 101st and 82nd always need new boots, just takes awhile for orders to come down. Are you in World Wide right now or still trying to get into the course? There are a bunch of good regular army units that need you, just don't let that " Ranger Mentality" kill your motivation :)

just checked my AKO too. I've been recruiting for 3 years as a detailed recruiter......and can't get out. I love being fenced in. It's great.

But, alas, I can't complain. God puts me where He wants me.

hehe, I did a declination statement on my orders for Recruiter School. The flag was well worth it, in my opinion! What is your primary MOS?

25Q.

I don't think I'd be able to do a dec statement. I have too many years in to get flagged for that. In all honesty, recruiting is not a bad gig. Once you get to know the job, the regs, and get your name out there in the community, it's pretty easy.

Those are COMSEC guys right? I imagine you did something with ANCDs.

That I understand. Getting flagged for promotion and having no favorable actions is not the way to go, if one is career. I just happened to be on my way out and enjoyed having an excuse not to attend the mandatory Re-enlistment breifings :p

Whats the motto? Make mission and go fishin? :D

I just couldn't put up with dealing with teenagers. The "No Shows" to appointments and the like. Takes a certian kind of person to excell at that job and I know my strengths would be a bad fit for that job.

Keep it up brother, gotta get those boots into BCT :)

Yea, man. I hear ya there. When I first got out here, it was rough. The getting cursed out over the phone, the no shows, the back outs, the parents..LOL. But, then, I put my first Soldier in the Army. It felt great man.

But if I had to do it all over again, I would skip about the first 3 or 4 months...haha

Further update.

Made it out of Benning, got assigned to 4/25 in Anchorage, Alaska. Got put into the "high speed" Cav unit in the Brigade and am now at Manas AB waiting to be flown to Bagram in Afghanistan THEN somehow to my FOB.

The internet is nice in Manas, but I can't wait to get to where I need to be and do my job.

Hope everyone is well :)

High speed Cav?
Sounds like fun. Fast moving light armor?(better then a "peacekeeper" for sure. AF kept that death wagon for far to long.)
Of course, being in real conflict isn't fun though.
