• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

First of all, Thank you for your prayers. I feel they were answered. I managed to get to my doctor. The van driver called at the last minute- he did get my message, he just said he was too 'busy' to call back (Ah, does he know how much ogeda he caused me! Oh well)

I had a GREAT appointment with my doctor. Guess what he told me? It seems that the steroid medication I was taking could be at the root of this whole episode. About two weeks ago, I broke out in hives, an allergic reaction to something I ate. My general practitioner put me on a massive dose of steriods (progesterone, or something like that) and then he had it tapered down over the course of ten days (I just stopped taking them a few days ago) My pscyhdoc told me that even in a non-bipolar person, such a high dose and then cut so rapidly to a low dose would cause an upswing and then a massive depression (becuase the body stops producing natural chemicals after it gets 'shocked' by the high dose, then it has to start producing them again) So he thinks I am, in fact, not destabilizing, but that since I was stable on my meds for a while this is probably an isolated incident!!

I feel so relieved! I already feel tons better. He said if I don't feel better over the next few days to call and he'll squeeze me in.

I am soo relieved. And you know what? I am happy I"m alive. Oh, I am not out of the woods with the depression, but now I know there is an end in sight.

I want to say

Thank You!

You don't know how much you all have helped me. Honestly, each and every single one of you who wrote to me, and each one of you who prayed- pat yourselves on the back, because you are at least partially responsible for saving a life. I honestly don't know how I would have gotten through this without all of you. You are a blessing. I truly believe the God put you here to help me, and guided me to this forum to help me.

Thank you so much. I'm going to keep posting and updating you on how I am doing. Keep praying for me, OK?

Thanks again. God bless all of you.

I had something similar happen when I injured my back this last winter. I was put on oral steroids and I experienced a relatively mild but still significant mood swing. My psychiatrist helped talk things over with me and it helped greatly. I am so glad to hear that everything worked out! :)

Greywolf,

When your on psych meds and then taking steroid injections and things of that nature that interfere this sometimes happens. Speaking from my standpoint, I had to take lo-ovral 28's for birth control, which has high levels of hormones in them. When combined with my bipolar and psych meds it made me go on a rapid downfall, so these meds are greatly influenced by other meds.

Glad all is back together for you. Keep us posted.

*praying*

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Oh GreyWolf I am so glad to hear this. I know you're not out of the woods but it sure is something to be able to see the EDGE of the woods isn't it? Yep--woods end in a few more steps. Anyway, praise God for you pdoc, for allowing you to get to your appointment, for helpful news, and for giving you the encouragement that you needed. :D

Yep, steroids and hormones are both notorious for impacting anyones moods and destabilizing those with mood disorders!!!
