Unusual Masturbation Problem

I'm new to the forum and I'm posting here because after looking around the internet a bit I haven't found any one addressing a problem that I have had with trying to stop masturbating.

I was not raised Christian and consequently masturbated freely beginning in my teen years, but since becoming religious I've wanted to stop. This has been a struggle, but more recently my willpower has been strong enough that I can stop for as long as I want. That is, I will not lapse from self-control, touch, and then regret it.

Of course while not masturbating I have had wet dreams, but apparently that is not sufficient release. After going without masturbation for a few months, some odd things started to happen. First of all, I would go to bed with pajamas on, but wake up naked. I was undressing myself in my sleep. Then I started masturbating in my sleep. I wasn't having wet dreams, I was masturbating in my sleep. It's hard to describe, but it is like I'm performing "sleepwalking masturbation." I'm conscious of it, but only in a shadowy, uncontrollable way. My higher mental faculties are absent, as is ethical judgment.

After this happened a few times, the strangest part of the story transpired. I not only undressed myself in my sleep, but I got up, completely naked, left my bedroom and walked out into the hall and into the living room. Not until I was in the living room did I wake up, snap out of it, and go back to my bedroom. I'm very thankful that my house mate did not happen to see me. I'm also very thankful that I did not walk outside my front door which is in the living room. Afterwards I did some research on sleepwalking, and found that some people have sleepwalked outside while naked.

I have never had sleepwalking issues before, ever. Not the slightest hint. In the end I decided to start masturbating again, once every few weeks, just to put an end to my sleepwalking problems, which has been effective. I very strongly desire to cease masturbating completely, and save my next (waking) [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse] for my wedding night, but I am having a great deal of trouble. Any thoughts or suggestions would be most welcome.

too speak freely and honesty friend im glad you came to a christian for help, first of all i would like to say that as we are in the age of technology we are prone to think everything is physical i believe alot of the physical world is linked to spiritual matters, god is spirit. i say you pray whole-heartly and ask god to rebuke the spirits of lust that come along with touching yourself. I believe that satan is using this ailment to draw you back to sin! repent and trust in the lord not yourself

Okayz, Ive known people that have had some of the things you have described. More of the taking off of clothes in their sleep.
But anyway, I hope that i can help somehow. I know that to kill sin you have to starve it. I think you have been doing pretty well with that. I mean we all relapse but you have to keep asking God for strength in that area. I actually have been thinking about it and asking God. I honestly think it might be demonic. I know that sounds kinda out there. But i dont believe it is too far off.
I mean think about it, usually when we are trying to gain victory and freedom from sin in our lives, Satan sais "o noo noo nooo" so he throws everything at us that he can to keep us in the sin. I mean, i am only human, I feel stupid for suggesting it. Maybe try praying every night before you go to bed. Pray that God would protect you from any spirit that may try to influence you. Its worth a try.
But whatever you do, keep pressing forward in repentance like you have.

Therapon7, I think this is perfectly normal behaviour. This is probably where the succubus and incubus folklore came from.

What we deny ourselves during the day, our subconscious expresses in the form bizarre behaviour and dreams. Some people eat in their sleep and have no memory later. They even eat crazy things like soap.

Your problem can be solved by Jesus, He loves us and can set us free from anything as He knows us inside and out since God created us. Yes masturbating is not right and that is why the Holy Spirit is working with you right now, Jesus the truth wants you to be free. This is something in your spirit that first needs to be dealt with. You must have some self esteem - in that you really believe that you don't want to touch. Not as in being fearful of punishment or something like that, more like that you believe yourself that you have grown out of this in maturity.

I don't have sleepwalking problems but I sometimes have wet dreams. Most of the time it is as you describe it, I am not fully aware. But last night I was fully aware of what was going on and suddenly I had thoughts like "I don't want this, this is all just lusting", and the wet dream was over.

Just don't doubt yourself. Read up on the dignity a human has in himself. Believe in being God's child of whom He is proud. Don't allow anything which would tempt you out of this dignity, be it anger or lust or sloth, whatever. Learn to give in to the Spirit rather than to the flesh. It's a lifelong struggle, sometimes there are defeats. Personally, I have the most problems with sloth. We all have some weaknesses here and some strengths there. But we can really rise above the worst things and our mistakes will become less blatant in time and by Jesus grace we get better and better.

Honestly man I'm 21 years old and read this because I have the same exact problem spot on! <edit> I have been able to completely refrain during the day but at night if I don't pray enough (or even if I do) I get attacked. I have pajama pants that I tie really tight like 7 knots and sometimes I untie all of them in y sleep or just reach in under my pants and touch with it tied. I always feel horribly guilty and ashamed when I wake up. I always confess it and shower and pray some more. It's so evil that my stomach like will make noises not when I'm hungry but I can tell almost like something is inside of me I can almost feel it. <edit>This is probably almost too much information but I'm being an honest brother in Christ. Long story short is that I recommend you keep praying, it's all I can do. God forgives and helps us out.

Last word of advice: NEVER listen to those Christians out there that say masturbation isn't a sin, that's a lie from the devil and he has even deceived adult christians to write articles to try and say it is not. Please don't fall for the enemies lies, be vigilant and keep starving sin with God's help. May Jesus help you brother, Amen!
