This was for health; we were talking about the food guide pyramid and food disorders and such. The assignment was to write a poem, song or short story about a food disorder. I picked to write a story about anorexia. This work is not currently titled.
Jenna was starving, she had a gnawing feeling in her stomach. She was hungry. But Jenna wouldn't eat. She had anorexia and knew it, but she wouldn't admit it.
She tried to avoid the kitchen as much as she could, but sometimes she crept in and watched the food. The sweet rolls, the bread and even the broccoli. Jenna watched them all.
It was time for school. Jenna stood up weakly and somehow arrived at school. She went through the day alright, feeling only a few pangs on hunger. When it came time for lunch, Jenna hid in the library.
Finally the last bell rang. Jenna stumbled home and could hardly get up the driveway. She shoved the key as hard as she could into the lock, which considering she hadn't eaten anything in days, was pretty weakly. No one was home yet.
As the door swung open, Jenna felt a wave of dizziness wash over her and she collapsed, the darkness enveloping her like an old friend.
When Jenna woke, she was in the hospital. She had no idea how many hours had passed since she had passed out, but considering her parents didn't get back until late from work, it must have been a long time. Her mother was holding her hand and her dad was standing, praying, nearby.
Jenna had starved herself for three weeks before she collapsed. She had wanted to be thin and beautiful like the popular girls at school, like the models with the skimpy swim suits and wonderful figures in the magazines she was subscribed to her.
Jenna learned the hard way that if you want to be thin and gorgeous, anorexia was NOT the way to go.
*Note: This story is not true. It is entirely made-up.
Tell me what you think!
