• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Do any of you suffer from terrible thoughts of violence towards evil people? I don't have these thoughts often it is only when I hear on the news about some evil or terrible crime someone has committed that I think about finding the perpetrators and beating them to a pulp. I have to contain these thoughts so they go away. I pray to God about them and they are not as bad as they use to be, but I still have them from time to time. I have a hatred for evil people. I don't like thinking like this. I know our hearts and minds are transformed by his spirit and reflect his righteousness and we should not entertain such thoughts, so I was wondering if these types of thoughts are part of my OCD or do I have an evil darkness within me? All of this goes against my nature as I'm a very placid and easygoing person.

Righteous anger is a good thing, Jesus revealed His anger towards those who turned His temple into a "den of thieves" by a violent rampage through the courts. The bible continuously mentions God's justice on those who's "cup of iniquity has been filled". In the end God will judge the world in righteous anger and wrath, destroying all wicked people with fire. Our God is truly angry at men's wickedness in the earth.

The thoughts you are having are somewhat extreme and not proper in accordance with thoughts we are commanded to have:

"Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things." (Philippians 4:8)

But the substance of the matter is that the people are wicked and probably deserve what is coming to them. But, isn't that true of all of us? We all deserve the worst of punishment for the sin we have committed in our lives.

Next time when the thoughts come, pray for the person, for his salvation, that Jesus would meet him and grant them true repentance and sorrow for what they have done. Mercy, is the heart of God, anger has it's place, sometimes even violence, but mercy is perfect and true and it is what Christians are called to manifest in their lives...especially to others.

Thank you SoS for your reply. Yes, I have to pray next time these thoughts overwhelm me so hopefully I replace my anger with mercy & forgiveness.
