Unreasonable parent

Id like to hear peoples opinions on this matter, if u dont so mind. If there was an argument between your mother and your sister - say the mother wanted to remove her daughter from a school because of bad results e.t.c. and therefore force her into employment or a worse school, and you knew that your sister could do better if she tried, what would you do? Really beginning to annoy me now, Im not sure whether to 'honour thy father and mother', or defend the sister because your almost certain that it would be for the worse if she was removed from a good school.

I'm not sure what I'd advise based on the little information given. I presume we're not talking about high school here, right? Because quitting high school to work is generally not an option. So, I'm guessing this is some kind of advanced education that your mom is paying for. If that's so, she has every right to stop paying if your sister isn't working hard enough to make it worthwhile. (The same would be true if your mom is paying for private elementary/high school). OTOH, I don't think that encouraging your sister to work harder, and encouraging your mom to give her another chance, is dishonoring your mother.

Hi, in Britain you can legally leave high school when you're 16, but the career prospects aren't good. There is also a big difference in standard between fee-paying schools, like it sounds the sun's sister is in, and non fee-paying schools. I think she is much more likely to improve where she is than in either no school at all or a worse school. Have I got the situation right?

Yeah, definately not enough information to give an opinion.
How about these issues.
Is the sister capable of doing better--does this mean she is below her standard at the moment or is doing better the answer to stop from being taken from that school?
How long has this been going on?
What has happened to make the mother decide to take her out of school?
What other tactics has the mother used in the past to deal with this situation?
What is the interact like between mother and daughter?
Are there any other issues between them that would cause this to happen?

That's just a few I can think of a the moment, because you can't just make a clear cut yes or no answer here, you rarely can when it involves interpersonal hassles.

As everyone's agreed, there's not enough info to really be able to answer, but let me share what I learned.

When I was in school, I could have aced all of my classes. I did ace the once I cared about in the beginning. Problem was there was very little i cared about at that point. I was intelligent and found school (which was very unchallenging to me) pretty pointless. It wasnt until I got out of school and had to get up every day and work whole days with no school half-days and summers off that I had any appreciation for my education.

Is it possible that your parents understand this and are just trying to motivate her either by letting her see how tough the real world is so she'll not just get better grades, but actually get as much as she can from the school she's going to?
