  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

He was getting annoyed that she couldn't just accept anything. Understandable giving her situation, but annoying nonetheless. He himself was nervous about his destination, and he couldn't be sure how safe it would be. Unfortunately, trust was a big issue, and he had to trust the man he had met at the airport until he had an alternative...

Cameron was in his car on his way to the airport. He was still a little tired after last night's mission. After a mission like that, he was supposed to have a week off, so it had surprised him when his boss had called him in less than an hour ago.

"I know it's your week off, Cameron, and I'm sorry, but something came up..." His boss was both looking and sounding edgy. Cameron had listened to the whole story about the disc, about its power, without saying anything. It was only when his boss came to the exploding plane that he had jumped up in surprise. "What?! A bomb? Inside the airport, at the gates, past the security? How? That shouldn't even be possible!" His boss looked weary. "No, it shouldn't. But it happened, and the woman who's currently in possesion of that disc needs more protection than ever. There are others who could have done it, but I want you to go."

Sighing, Cameron wheeled into one of the huge parking complexes. He had no idea where the disc was, or the woman who possessed it. When he got to the scene, he began asking questions to the police that were already there.

As the plane set down in Oklahoma City, the man checked his watch. Conrad's second man would have had 24 hours now to assess the situation at the airport. He wondered who it was? He ran through the options: MacKenzie was a possibility, but then, he was supposed to be out of country. Simpson? No, she was still in the hospital from what he had heard. Who else was there? OH ! Right! Cameron - he was supposed to be inbound from the Middle East, wasn't he? He'd heard of the man - solid investigator, quick reflexes too. Yes, Cameron would be a good choice!

As he left the plane for his connecting flight - 2 hour layover - sheesh! - he wondered if enough of his clue survived for Cameron, he hoped it was Cameron, to figure out where to meet him in St. Louis...far enough from the safe house (to which he had sent Nathan) to draw off pursuit, but close enough if things went too sour too fast....

He wondered how William was doing against his 'deadline' - he knew the time was nearly up and had yet to receive a phone call from his source in the German Service - William still had a vital role to play and the man was worried that his confidence in William's abilities had not been misplaced?

Brandy looked out the window, her emotions going up and down and in circles. How was she supposed to know if he was telling the truth? I could look for the chip, maybe? she thought as she grabbed her bag and began to look through it. After a few minutes she got impatient and nearly screamed, "Where is this darn thing supposed to be?!"

"LOCATION RECORDED....IDENTITY VERIFICATION SYSTEM ACTIVATED....REPORT STATUS", William heard the computer generated voice "command" him. This told him little more than: someone was expecting the call; he apparently was on track; this someone did not want to be easily identified...

Nathan wasn't exactly sure where the chip was planted. He merely knew she possessed it, and kept quiet throughout the ride. After a few minutes they pulled off the exit and reached the safehouse. As he parked, he realized the motorcycle that had been following behind them for the past few minutes was slowing down. Not good, he thought. "Stay in the car until I say it's ok to get out." he commanded to the girl. With that he opened the door and stepped out, his staff in hand and pistol at the ready.

*By permission of Squigui:

The man sat on the bed, still not quite in control: the conversation with Conrad replaying through his memory, again...

"No, no mistake. I spoke with him this morning and some Frederico confirms it is Cameron. Doctor says he's out for a at least a week."

"CAMERON was drunk?", the man had asked.

"No", replied Conrad, "The other guy had a BAC of .15 and had been going 80 in the wrong direction when he hit Cameron. Our guy swerved and got a bit banged up - doctor's need him to stay down for a week."

"And the other guy?", the man had asked.

"Coma - when his car hit Cameron's he went airborne for about 100 feet and he flew out and landed in some trees."

"100 feet? Da_n!"

"That's strange...?"

"What?", asked the man.

"The police report states that they found hands in the wreck with thin wires wrapped on the steering wheel - like piano wire - and the drunk guy had no hands when they found him in the trees?"

"Thin wire?", the man asked, "Like a garrotte? So his hands were tied to the steering wheel, cut off when he ejected? So he wasn't driving?!!"

He had started to think HARD at that point. This factor was unplanned. That French woman? He still wondered if the Chinese knew anything.

After an hour he reached for the room phone. He would think better on a full stomach...

The phone rang before he reached it. Suspicious, he looked at it as it rang three, now four times. An alarm rang in his head - something was VERY wrong.

He was up and running for the outside window before his mind noticed the details, felt the door open, felt the curtains part before him, felt the air below him as he leapt heard the spray of bullets cutting the bed to pieces behind him.

He hit the ground with a hard thump, but at a dead run. His mind snapped through the details of his planned escapes. With Cameron down and certain assets missing there were now too many unknowns in the equation. He knew his rental car was useless, but he was not one to forget backup plans. As he slowed a few blocks away he hailed a cab.

As the driver pulled away, the man heard his cellphone chirp. He listened to the recording of William's voice. He had found Nathan at the safe house. He smiled at William's offer to lead him in as he knew exactly where the house was. But then the dark thought crossed his mind that he had just been attacked.

It was time for a backup plan. It was time he brought some of the other players together. Protecting the chip had been the easy part. Everything had been according to plan so far. He was reminded of his early days of training and the maxim he had learned: Plans Change. How true now that this plan had apparently been 'changed' for him.

He thought quickly. With Cameron down and that French woman - what was she calling herself this mission? - out of contact for so long, he knew the only people he could count on would be Nathan and William. The girl was not exactly expendable, but certainly remained an unknown in many respects. He stared out the window for a long time...

WAIT! William had been tracking them and had them at the safe house. Knowing William's reputation for reflective, patient action, he knew he had to act fast. He pulled out the cellphone and pulled up the numbers for Nathan and William. It was time for a meeting among professionals, not a blood orgy between killers. He hit the button to conference them in. As they both answered nearly the same time, he said, "Gentlemen. You both know this voice. You know I said you could trust me. Stand down now. We have a problem. We need to talk. You know where the house is. Let us meet there. Keep the target and the package safe. This thing is bigger than any of us has been told. We three are professional men, we need to pull together or we'll all be professional, DEAD men."

He changed his cab's destination, handed the driver an extra $100 bill and told him to not worry about traffic laws. He could be at the house in under ten minutes if the driver was any good.

As soon as the man was out of the car, Brandy turned aorund in her seat quick enough to see a guy on a motorcycle pass by. Her heart was beating faster every second and her hands wouldn't stop trembling. She turned back around and began going through every tiny pocket of her bag. Suddenly she froze. She pulled out the tiniest mechanical chip she'd ever seen in her life. It had a couple blinking lights on it, apperenty to indicate that it was working. When the man who'd been driving came back tot he car, she held the chip up.
"This is it? This tiny thing is what my life is being held on the line for?" she asked, angry all over again.

(ooc - anybody else remember how big this thing was supposed to be (hint: see post 1) ? And there's been plenty of 'misdirection' and 'back-plot' already... heheh... what bugs me is: I have no clue what she just found, I just hope it doesn't lead to the story ending WAY too early!! )

back to story:

The man tensed, readying for action as the cab made the final turn - he remembered from here the house was just over the third hill: about 2 miles now on the right...
