Here is a link from Wikipedia that quotes some verses from the bible that suggest that blaspheming against the holy spirit is unforgivable and that one cannot be saved after doing such a thing:

Eternal sin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I definitely am guilty of this particular act of blasphemy, therefore I will not be saved right? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of Jesus' death.. I mean.. people tell me that jesus died 2000 years ago so that he paid the sins of all people for all time.. But if I cannot be forgiven for this sin, then isn't jesus' death meaningless? If so, then "God's" purpose of sending himself as a man is also meaningless, because the mission is failed by all those who blaspheme against the holy spirit.. right? Even if I reach out to god with all my heart in the future, I will not be looked up favorably, so doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of salvation?
Read First John Chapter Five. There you see a bother sinning the sin unto death. Then look at the first four chapters. It is all about loving others and the failure to love others being fatal to your being a child of God. If First John is divine truth, I think it is teaching you that all sin is forgivable except the failure to love others which would be not allowing the Holy Spirit to lead you since it would always lead you in the path of love and that is the way I think you blaspheme the Holy Spirit.

Question: "What is the unpardonable sin / unforgivable sin?"

Answer:
The case of the “unpardonable sin/unforgivable sin” or “blasphemy of the Holy Spirit” is mentioned in Mark 3:22-30 and Matthew 12:22-32. The term “blasphemy” may be generally defined as “defiant irreverence.” We would apply the term to such sins as cursing God or willfully degrading things relating to Him. It is also attributing some evil to God, or denying Him some good that we should attribute to Him. This case of blasphemy, however, is a specific one called “the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit” in Matthew 12:31. In this passage, the Pharisees, having witnessed irrefutable proof that Jesus was working miracles in the power of the Holy Spirit, claimed instead that He was possessed by the demon Beelzebub (Matthew 12:24). In Mark 3:30, Jesus is very specific about what exactly they did to commit “the blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.”

This blasphemy then has to do with accusing Jesus Christ (in person, on earth) of being demon-possessed. There are other ways to blaspheme the Holy Spirit (such as lying to Him, as in the case of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5:1-10), but the accusation against Jesus was the blasphemy that was unpardonable. This specific unpardonable sin against the Holy Spirit cannot be duplicated today.

The only unpardonable sin today is that of continued unbelief. There is no pardon for a person who dies in unbelief. John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” The only condition in which someone would have no forgiveness is if he/she is not among the “whoever” that believes in Him. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). To reject the only means of salvation is to condemn oneself to an eternity in hell because to reject the only pardon is, obviously, unpardonable.

Many people fear they have committed some sin that God cannot or will not forgive, and they feel there is no hope for them, no matter what they do. Satan would like nothing better than to keep us laboring under this misconception. The truth is that if a person has this fear, he/she needs only to come before God, confess that sin, repent of it, and accept God’s promise of forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). This verse assures us that God is ready to forgive any sin—no matter how heinous—if we come to Him in repentance. If you are suffering under a load of guilt today, God is waiting with His arms open in love and compassion for you to come to Him. He will never disappoint or fail to pardon those who do.

This is actually an intelligent question, in the midst of the rest of this scenario, which is a mess. I have to tell you that no, have actually have not found a way to outsmart G-d. Whatever it is that makes you think yo have committed this unforgivable sin, you haven't actually done it. You can rest easy knowing you don't know what it is, and it's not something someone can do by accident ...

Denying the holy spirit, not loving others, whatever it may be... it is considered the unforgivable sin right?

Jesus definitely isn't being specific in Mark 3:30

So if God is willing to forgive all those sins after I repent, then why have the other bible verses saying that blaspheming the holy spirit isn't forgivable? Isn't it contradictory?

Yeah but what verse claims that blaspheming the holy spirit is only unforgivable in the past when Jesus was on earth?

Good catch. Personally, I don't hold it to be quite that restrictive, but any offender still must meet the same burden of proof. I just don't see how you could have possibly done that ...

What? The bible says it's the only unforgivable sin.. therefore I said I have committed that unforgivable sin! I was questioning why it was specific to jesus being on earth.. why that claim and what difference does it make?

I hold the claim not to be Jesus physically on earth, but knowing what you're doing in the same way He accused them of blaspheming the HS - with the same degree of certainty in knowing what they were doing. I still don't see how you could possibly have done that, but I do understand why it's fun to jump to that conclusion: so we can eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we shall die. Sort of the Spiritual version of suicide by cop.

*shrugs* okay. But it doesn't. There's no verse where Jesus or anyone else says "BOTHS is this specific thing." There's some hinted at ideas here and there, but we just plain old don't know for sure. IMO, the only unforgivable sin is resisting the work of the Holy Spirit in our life until we die...because then it's too late. Anyone who think that simply denying that the HS exists, or using foul language or anything like that is silly. Plenty of people have cursed God and then come to know Him.

 This is good. I wonder where the OP puts himself relative to this?

Scripture makes it plain that's not what it is. Those He directed the charge towards saw the Power of G-d manifested, and attributed it to satan. Pretty sure our OP hasn't ;)

That's the strongest claim for what BOTHS is...but I don't think that's what it is. Knowing Jesus and his style of teaching as I do, I believe that was hyperbole. He did it all the time. He was making a point. I do not believe that Jesus meant that that's what BOTHS was. But a case can be made for it. I happen to disagree. Let's not argue this one to death :p
