  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

in the world...I need help with this issue. I've been really thinking about sin and God's decrees, the sinfulness of man, the will of man, how the will is effected by sin, what the will of man was like before the fall, a ton of other questions.

Where should I start when study this huge topic?

Good Day, JM

I will admit I am no where close to you on understanding this whole issue, as with most of the issues you study.

I read a ddebate some time ago between 2 brothers here at CF, that "might" help you.

Peace to u,

Our church is going through Tim Keller's "Gospel Christianity" Study which I have found to be very helpful in my understanding of who God is and what sin is. It isn't that Keller talks of anything new, but just in the way that it is presented caused a light bulb to go off in my brain (which probably says more about me, but that is another story!).

In the study, you do a study on the concept of Glory. Also studied is the Trinitarian relationship. What I learned from this is that God's Glory is so wonderful that He created creation to share and fellowship in His Glory. Others mistake this as God being egotistical because he requires us to glorify Him.

Sin, on the other hand, is when we reject God. The whole glory-thing is all about a RELATIONSHIP and sin is all about a BROKEN

WHOOPS, I hit something accidently that caused my post to get posted before I was finished!

Anyhoo....

The whole glory-thing is all about a RELATIONSHIP and sin is all about a BROKEN RELATIONSHIP. This part of the study helped me to understand why we try not to be held accountable for our actions (environmental influences caused one to sin), why we develop a system of standards for us and others to be held accountable to (legalism) or moral relavance so our sin doesn't seem to be so bad. They all deny that we have broken a relationship with God. It also caused a lightbulb to go off about having a love for the lost, we should be grieving that broken relationship/separation from God.

I'm sooooo sorry! I don't know what I did to cause all these multiple postings. Not sure if it is not enough coffee or too much coffee.....................probably that combined with the fact that I am older....

CC&E-apparently, I haven't had enough chocolate either

Thanks, I still have no clue as to what caused the multiple posts. Glad the mayhem was confined to an internet forum and not while I was driving or chopping up veggies while preparing dinner!
