  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If you're in the US, yes it's wrong to drink if you're under 21. I wouldn't really recommend drinking at parties at all, but this is coming from someone that's still struggling with the bottle. Not much good can come from consumption, so do yourself a favor and don't even start.

Ok, so when talking to friends in college should this be a topic I should be bringing up? I don't think any of them would try to get drunk, but we are required to obey the laws of the country...
Also: I've heard so many variations of the law, like you can drink at home or at a private residence, is this true?

(emphasis mine) you'll find that statement is about as far from the truth as you can get once you are in college - though it may not apply to your specific set of friends. Sure, there are those that do not drink and those that do not drink to get drunk. When I was in school - particularly freshmen their first week away from mommy and daddy - ended up in the cups, so to speak.

Whether you can drink in a private residence varies - every school that I can think of has rules against underage drinking in dorms (that doesn't mean it doesn't happen - a lot).

Some places you can be charged for serving a minor in your own home.

the drinking age is stupid..and it's not because i want to be able to drink, i do anyways, i dont think the govermnement has the right to tell me not to drink in my own home, especially if im not getting drunk...if a boy at 18 can go to war and risk his life, then surely he can have a drink or two.

I wouldn't mind one glass, but I'm only 19. I leave the discretion up to my parents as to my only having one glass. When I do drink during holidays, my family makes sure I drink only one glass, or a glass and a half at the most. Besides, Christmas, Easter, and thanksgiving, the only wine, I have is communion wine, which isn't wine anymore, but Christ's blood.
