• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hi all.
I was recently on a psych ward and i saw a new psych there. Ones i have had in the past don't really try and do any diagnostic type work with me, i just tell them what i have been dealing with (depression and eating disorder), they give me a med and send me on my way. well, this doc said that it sounded like i was bipolar, rapid-cycling mild mania. He went over some meds that might help me, but ended up not giving me any of them (i got a sleep mad and some attivan on top of my anti-D tho).
So, what is that supposed to mean? should i just leave it or should I push him or someone else for more testing or a diagnosis or meds or what?
i've been kind off out of it lately and I am drawing a blank here. any advice or support would be much appreciated!

Who is your reg pdoc-talk to them. It is so hard with a diagnosis in pschiatry coz theier are no definitive tests or blood tests. It is all sypmtom based. Therefore doc may disagree about a dx for the same person based on what they are able to get out of you. I was depressed for many many years. It wasn't util my father died and we realized his depression was really bp type 2 and my son's dx was changed to bp tpe 2 that we began looking seriously at my posss being bp type 2. When it became true we never knew if it was always true or if the antidepressants I had been on for over ten years just trigger the bp 2 gene in me. whatever, who cares-it is true now as much as I sometimes hate to admit it coz I cope a whole lot better with depression that the mania bit. What was not at all clear to me for years was the different types of bp. BP2 is characterized by depression, even severe depression and then hypo or small manias. For me they started out as just a good day or fleeting hour or two where I felt better or normal or I actually noticed colors again. They have progressed some now to include irritability and even on occas extreme rage. but I do not develop the full blown racing thoughts, fast talking, fast spending, overcreative, hypersexual, type symptoms that can be true of higher degrees of manias. It does cycle altho each individual cycles in their own pattern. My thoughts are check it out with your doc and pursue it as a possibility. You willl either find it is true or it is not. The treament for depression and bipolar has many overlapping features as they are both mood disorders. and it is actually common for there to be and 6 to 12 years process to a correct diagnosis of bp. So don't be afraid of it -talkabout it and find out if it is possible and if it doesn't sound right step away and move on. Tryto be as honest with yourself and your doc as you possibly can and pray for God's wisdom, guidance and discernment for you and your doc. My, doc and I had actually thought of this poss 2-4 times before and it never seemed to fit, then one day it was clear as day and now I feel so much better!!!! Blessing in your search for truth on the road to recovery!!!

I would diffentitly get a second opinion! I They always said I was bipolar and never gave me meds for it. I went years with just one anti deppressant med after another. I got a new doctor and she gave me lamictal for bipolar and I can't believe how good it made me feel! I also found out that I do need an anti deppressant also but at least I'm gonna be ok!!
Hope that helped alittle!
GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS!!!

When im in that situation, I get my bible out and I pray and ask God to speak to me and to show me what to do that I am unsure of things, then I randomly open my bible and every time I get answers that hit the spot or that has to deal with what im going through...Maybe you should try it sometime...:amen:

Get a second opinion for sure. Don't let them railroad you into inactivity towards your illness. I've had doctors do that to me. If I was you I have it soorted out as soon as possible and get yourself some good meds. Getting the rights meds can be hard enough as it is.

All the best with this.
