  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I searched and could not find a previous discussion about this movie, so i apologize if one exists.

Has anyone seen this movie? If not, it involves a totalitarian government and a rebel. My question relates to the government symbolism in the movie. Was it me, or were there a lot of crucifixes in the government buildings? The only mention of anything religious is when Violet is asked if she believed in God, but I did find it odd.

I was thinking that there were several words that made me think of religion but I can't tell you what they were now. I thought that the movie lacked but maybe that is because I had just watched Resident Evil which is the same basic concept only the movie was way better!

Have you seen Aeon Flux, that is a good one too if you like Ultraviolet.

I did see Aeon Flux, and did like it. I seem to be in a minority, movies with strong female leads seem to lag! I didn't take the movie as a shot at Christianity, but there did seem to be a lot of symbolism. It made me think of the old days when Chevrolet would sponser a movie and provide Chevys for the good guys and Fords for the bad guys.

Ultraviolet and Aeon Flux seemed to be the same thing almost, both very bad. It's not the female leads that sank them, it's the fact that both leads seemed to be impersonal, flawless, and unbeatable characters. In other words, you didn't care what happened next...

i liked it. aeon flux, a little...maybe 'cause both female leads were just too hot...and i'm a sucker for these badass female lead type of movies.
ultraviolet was better than aeon flux. i didn't care for that little kid or anything. i just wanted to see her kick some ass. screw the plot, just make a film with her kicking ass while looking hot.

Wong Kar-wai should taka stab at the genre. In The Mood for Love meets Kill Bill or something. :)

but really, go watch Serenity instead.

good, entertaining film. i really liked that simple and long single take near the beginning.

Finally watched it. Not what I would call predictable, other than the good guys winning. Excellent call, thanks for the reccomendation.

I saw the movie this evening and I didn’t like it. It was done on green screen and that is not my favorite type of movie, case in point ‘Sin City’. The good part of the movie was it was not an “F” rated movie and no sex either. It was one fight scene after another.
