Ubuntu Question

I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 in a small office environment (running)

We're using it for
1) In house web serving (working)
2) SAMBA File sharing (working)
3) Database usage (working)

We've got a few in house domain names so I've got it also acting as the DNS server for the computers in house (working)

Now given that most request for internet traffic are sent through the box, is their any utilities that I can use for monitoring internet traffic, to prevent misuse of the company internet?

You really need a proxy server such as Squid to forward internal requests for websites - that will give you a full log of requests from your internal users.

Alternatively you could set your internal DNS server to forward DNS requests to a service such as OpenDNS - the advantage of that is you can block sites that are troublesome eg, porn etc..

Disadvantage of OpenDNS is that your source IP address will be that of your offices router which won't help if you need to identify the internal user requesting any objectional sites.

Squid. We used it here to limit access for a while.
