  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What're your thoughts on Tzitzits? I am going to learn to make some, but just wanted some opinions on them, and tips for making them if anyone had experience with them.

Ummmmm what ARE they exactly?

:sorry:

Tzitzit [tsiˈtsit] (Hebrew: ציצית, Modern tsitsit, Tiberian sˤisˤiṯ; plural tsitsiyot) are specially knotted ritual fringes, or tassels, worn in antiquity by Israelites and today by observant Jews and Samaritans. Tzitzit are attached to the four corners of the tallit (prayer shawl) and tallit katan (everyday undergarment).

I was going to say something similar. What on earth are they and are they good or bad.

They're GOOD. A Messianic speaker came to our church and gave a sermon, and then we could order them.

The tzit zit is not the prayer shawl, it is the tassels on the corners.

Actually they are knotted fringes at are attached to the four corners of a tallit, which is a garment worn by Jewish men under their shirt usually. They are made of white and blue threads. Each knot represents a commandment from God. They are for a reminder to remember God's laws throughout the day.

Deu 22:11 `Thou dost not put on a mixed cloth, wool and linen together.
Deu 22:12 `Fringes thou dost make to thee on the four skirts of thy covering with which thou dost cover thyself .

Num 15:38 `Speak unto the sons of Israel, and thou hast said unto them, and they have made for themselves fringes on the skirts of their garments, to their generations, and they have put on the fringe of the skirt a ribbon of blue,
Num 15:39 and it hath been to you for a fringe, and ye have seen it, and have remembered all the commands of Yehovah, and have done them, and ye search not after your heart, and after your eyes, after which ye are going a-whoring;
Num 15:40 so that ye remember and have done all My commands, and ye have been holy to your God;

Is that how the knots were? I didn't know each knot represented a commandment. There's not really instructions in the bible, so I figured it was just up to the maker on how to make them. I was just going to use the numbers associated with the hebrew alphabet to spell out the Father's name. I know they're to remind you to obey the commandments, but where did you hear that? I'd love to see and read on how some people do it like that.

I read it in the scripture I quoted from Numbers. Then I researched on Jewish websites. This is a site that I like but I use others as well. This site has photos of a couple of Tzitzit.
Karaite Korner - Tzitzit
The strings of the Tzitzit are to be tied into a chain-like knot and placed on the corners of four-cornered garments. ...... The important thing is that they have the appearance of links in a chain (Gedilim) and that they include at least one blue strand. The word Tzitzit itself literally means a "braid, plait" as in the verse "and took me by a plait (KJV: lock) of mine head". Thus the design of the Tzitzit must be like that of a braid/plait of hair which is the same design as the links in a chain.

Sometimes you will see them hanging down from under a man's suit jacket.
Others will have actual knots they show a couple on wiki too, I think.
