Two types of Catholics

I've noticed there are two types of Catholics. First type is one that believes they will go to heaven since they are members of the true church, regularly attend mass, and partake in the sacraments. The second type is the one that believes that heaven is not a guarantee without Jesus living in your life even if you are a Catholic. I'm more in line with the second type of Catholics. Both. My church considers me a member since I have registered for the class.

You mean you'd get a Catholic funeral or the benefits of a Catholic during the conversion process. But you have not been accepted into the Church yet?

Yes. They consider me a Catholic Christian even though it has not official yet. The church priest associate said it's all about the desires of the heart.

Don't know yet. Classes start on 9/24. But I already done the interview with the priest associate.

I was accepted in the month of October when I became Catholic 10 plus years ago.

Wish it would start sooner, but priest associate said its not about timing, but rather about where your heart is.

As far as your op, I tend to see salvation as a journey not just a one time event.

Yeah, I hear you. I struggle to be a Catholic Christian. Someone who follows Christ through the Church He founded, as best I can. It's a struggle, it's a journey. I'm not there yet. I find that I still find a lot of common ground with other Christians, though. It would be great if all true followers of Christ would come Home. I believe someday, this will happen.

Both groups could actually be true Catholics lol.

The first group - we don't know WHY they are doing all those things. If they are just going through the motions, then yeah I can see what you think that, but they could be doing those things out of love for the Lord.

As to your OP, I think someone else was right when they said it's both. After all, we don't subscribe to eternal security, we can turn our back on Christ's offering of salvation. Being a part of the One True Church is essential, properly participating in the Sacraments (looking at the Catholics who receive when not in a state of sanctifying grace), alongside cultivating a relationship with Christ. It's a cohesive and holistic life.

I hope people don't get upset at my question, because I've been an on-off inquirer into the Catholic faith (right now, "on," lol). But one thing I would like to know - is there a way you (in the general sense) can have more assurance of your salvation?

Your question above is actually a reflection of where you are along the road to becoming a Catholic.
As such it is a reflection of your observation from outside the Church Catholics, and also of your experiences so far in your journey.

So what you said above is more truly a blend of Catholic and Protestant beliefs at this time, rather than a true reflection of Catholic beliefs as the Church teaches them.
