Forgive me if these are stupid questions. I only just found out that the Salvation Army was an actual denomination within the last hour. I did look through several of the links in the stickied information thread before deciding to ask these, though.

First off, out of random curiousity, does cooking with alcohol break the no alcohol rule?

Secondly, a more complicated question about opinions on the uniforms, ranks, ect.. I am curious to hear if actual military members find this system familiar, and are drawn to the church because of that. Conversely, are there pacifists who, despite agreeing with the SA's beliefs, are uncomfortable being called a soldier, reporting to a captain, or dressing in the uniform? Just in general, I want to know what the experience of belonging to a church with a military theme is actually like.

Cooking with alcohol. When one cooks with alcohol it evaporates off (at 60 degrees Celcius). Thus, the consumed item is not alcoholic. No problems.

Militancy. I am uncertain whether members of a national army or pacifists feel more or less comfortable in the Army's ranks. I don't really think it matters, either, since as a movement we are called rather specifically to the poor and marginalised.

We have a long time soldier who absents himself from remembrance day as he feels it glorifies war. He is 'army barmy' though. We have had one or two ww2 veterans who clearly enjoyed the structure, but it's not really like the conventional armed forces. It's more about identification. Soldiers in the Army are available to serve.
