It's a sentence fragment. There's nothing to interpret, since it doesn't even express a complete thought.

But it does to a believer, just those words tells it all to us---

In the beginning actual reads "In the summit" in the original Hebrew---at the start, at the peak,---at the beginning of anything, at the start of anything---God---He always was, always will be---

Yes, but AV doesn't believe in the "original" Hebrew -- his God speaks only in King James' English.

Don't take my word for it; ask him yourself... right, @AV1611VET ?

Yes, that's right.

But her point is still the same:

No matter what language it is, we believe: IN THE BEGINNING, GOD.

But it only means what she says it means in a different language... sure, it may look like the original, but in any other case, you'd call it "diabolic mimicry."

...noting also that you had to re-write the phrase to your own liking before you could agree on it.

Yes, I know, we've discussed it.

LOL!! Leave it as it is written ----says the same thing to us---in the beginning GOD--that is it--He is all there is or was---at the conception of anything---GOD--

I'm talking about adult Sunday school.

Fair point. Children are fairly clever, it requires years of programming to turn a child into an adult who is unwilling to use their brain.

That would mean that, according to AV, all Christians are in 100% denominational agreement on approximately 1/2 of the first verse of the Bible...

...after that, it gets ugly.

Not exactly a point of solidarity, is it?

Were we discussing solidarity? Do all agnostics and atheists think exactly alike on everything? Except that there is no God, that is.

AV was boasting about it not too long ago... and it's one thing to respectfully disagree on minor points, but to stop short at 1/2 the first verse of a very long book is hardly something to crow about, IMHO.

And yet that '1/2 the first verse of a very long book' can be used to effectively pwn any atheist who eeks & ooks about all these "38,000 different denominations."

And it does so by using their own logic against them.

Except that it can't -- not effectively, not even competently.

Although perhaps someone, someday, will try.

And for the record, professor, maybe you could explain to us why Jesus only used parts of passages to defeat Satan, when Satan tempted Him?

And for extra credit perhaps, professor, you could explain to us why Jesus cut His quote from Isaiah 61 short at the comma, instead of quoting the whole passage?

Because Satan only used parts of passages to tempt him... if that.

For the record, student, in literature we call that "parallelism."

And for extra credit perhaps, professor, you could explain to us why Jesus cut His quote from Isaiah 61 short at the comma, instead of quoting the whole passage?

Because Jesus, unlike you, was able and willing to quote part of a passage while preserving the meaning -- meaning being something you've never had an honest interest in.

But He stopped at the comma on purpose.

What was that purpose, professor?

Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Isaiah 61:2 To proclaim the acceptable year of the LORD, [notice Jesus stops here] and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn;

Luke 4:18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

Luke 4:19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.

First of all, "he" didn't stop; Luke did.
And second, asked and answered.

But if you insist on speculation, I'd say it's probably because the Hellenized, urbanized, more cosmopolitan Jews (which describes Luke's audience) were less focused on the apocalyptic aspect of the verse, so Luke chose to disregard that part as irrelevant.

Now, you and I can argue the wisdom of that approach, as Luke's audience were less likely to buy into the whole "Messiah triggering the end of the world" aspect, having already been driven from their sacred homeland and faring... actually, quite well, thank you very much.

Seems pretty clear to me that Luke did not intend to deceive his audience or deliberately misinterpret Scripture for his own benefit -- which puts him up on you on so many levels...

No there are not two accounts if creation. Chapter 2 focuses on the creation of man. There are no contradictions either. Those that claim it are not reading very closely.

Man created before the animals, or animals created before man?
