The theory of evolution tells us that there was 2 billion year period where millions of one celled organisms swam around the earth, but didn't start to come together to form organisms.

Why would God spend two billiion years watching a giant pool of cells move around the earth? Why would He wait so long to start making multi-celled organisms?

Ark Guy, you do realize that you are on the absolute bottom of the "Holier Than Thou" list, right?

Anyway, I read about this somewhere, and I forget the exact arguement, but think of it like this.

When you roll a snowball down a hill, at first it is really small and then it builds up speed and mass, right? Same thing with Bacteria. Evolution is about modification of existing parts, so you need a while to develop the parts necessary for that sort of burst.

The problem is that with forums such as this statements can easily be taken in the wrong light.
I believe you have even said this once or twice...but I could be wrong.

You might not like my style, but I do get my point across.

Of course maybe you oought to get the chunk of wood out of your own eye prior to critizing me with your ad-hom attacks like you just presented above.

Why not? God is eternal; 2 billion years is nothing to Him.
Yes, but there's nothing in the theory of evolution that suggests that a deity was guiding it. ;)

If you don't believe me, just try converting an atheist by telling him that God directed evolution.

Evolution doesn't require divine action, but it also doesn't prohibit it either. God could guide a cosmic ray to hit a specific gene in a germ cell to cause a crucial mutation, and we would be none the wiser. An omnipotent, omniscient being can exert huge amounts of control without ever visibly doing anything.

This has nothing to do with NC's post, but there's this site I used to have bookmarked, and it had a soundtrack that just repeated "YOU ARE AN IDIOT, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HA HA HA HA HA"

And it has these little smiley faces.

It's really funny.

"A thousand years is like a day to God" sound familiar? God has all the time in the universe and more. What possible rush could he be in?

Exactly. He looked at His creation, and saw that it was good. It was good even before Adam was. Why? Because the whole thing is just that neat.

Look up, some time, at the stars. He sees them, too. On worlds far from here, orbiting other suns, He watches the sunsets.

I don't think God directed evolution any more then He is directing the metabolism of my last meal by my liver. That does not mean that God is not necessary, just that he does not have to sit there and guide every atom in the universe.

You may as well ask "why have this huge universe with all these useless stars and galaxies allover the place"

Exactly. I think that the type of universe that evolution and an old universe talk about is far more complex and God-worthy than one plopped into existence.

On a sidenote, TPhoenix, I have to say that I don't think that the day = thousand years thing was meant to be taken literally, but rather that a thousand years was used as an arbitrary number to show that God is eternal.

Sorry if you already knew that.
