25 to 30 years ago we didn't see stuff like we see now. The pushing
of homosexuality in almost every TV sitcom. I won't watch them
just for this reason.

There is an agenda, don't kid yourself. The big shots up top
want to dumb down and degrade society, and are doing a
heck of a job.

I don't hate and won't judge anyone personally. What people
do in their own homes is their business. I just don't like the
fact they are putting gays on TV where kids will see them.
And that's what they probably want. To confuse them, as
we know the adolescent years are some of the toughest
years of our lives.

I am glad that there are others disgusted and angry.

I watch some American television from time to time and it is utterly flooring in regards to the pushing of homosexuality amongst other sexual perversions, drug abuse, etc.

I recommend that you start spending more time in literature and maybe start reading philosophy and theology books. I find this to be fulfilling.

Yawnorama, almost too easy, change 25 to 50 and homosexual to black.

Next!

First, you have a very dismissive attitude as if you do not want to delve into any debate. You just think you can say the two are the same.

Second, there have been movements for racial equality for thousands of years...

There is some odd liberal concept that racial equality is a new idea and that we only now just beat it, and now we are defeating some poisoned ideas about homosexuality, which is a patent lie.

Islam has been anti-racist since its inception and found and destroyed the race based slavery system that had preivously existed with strong, original Black Muslims like Billal.

Racial discrimination is a symptom of something entirely different -- and I would dare say that comparing the treatment of black students and black people to that of homosexuals is petrifyingly insulting to the students who were ritualistically deprived of an education, and the blacks who were disallowed from using equal services.

Get a grip.

is it not more hurtful to see shows that involves multiple-relationships, adultry, young-aged sex, betrayal, scheming, murder, rape, pedophile-relationships, incest-relationships?

iirc, most i have seen a gay couple go is them kissing.

and those involve mostly hot girls... fan service, almost.

Honestly, adultery, multiple-relationships, young-aged sex, etc. are all worse. However, few people are out there patently saying that adultery is OK while nowadays the trend is to say that homosexuality is commendable and no a negative.

That is what the big difference is and what rests at the core of the debate.

I'm not a fan of the Oppression Olympics, but let's remember that gay people have been and still are murdered, as well. No one needs to get a grip.

And the discrimination facing them is of a fundamentally different type than that of racial discrimination.

Christians are being murdered in Egypt and Pakistan; Shi'ites are being murdered in Pakistan, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pedophiles are being murdered in Russia.

Nationalists & Far Right Wingers are being physically assaulted in places like Denmark, Italy, Spain and Sweden, in some cases murdered...

Are all of these related?

Just as much as anti-gay discrimination is related to discrimination against blacks.

Again, trying to compare a race of people with those who
choose to live a sexually immoral lifestyle.

I'm comparing the choice to marry someone of another race, and the choice to sleep with someone of the same sex. Neither harms anyone else.

The reason you believe it's ok and normal is because the
ones who write the shows, and the people up top want
you to think it's ok and normal.

What shows are these? I don't remember watching many shows with gay people in. 'Friends' shows Ross' ex wife as a lesbian... it shows her as a nice person. Are you saying that TV shows should lie and show gay people as bad people, or non-existent? If the TV portrays relationships as they are, then people can come to their own conclusions.

Anyway, I used to be against homosexuality (eg: while I watched Friends). The reason I changed my mind wasn't because of any TV show, or because I knew someone gay (I didn't), but because I realised that the condemnation had no moral basis.

I don't know if it's because I'm younger you assume I come to beliefs based on the TV, but some people base their beliefs on reason.

Think of your ancestors.
Canada, USA are really not that much different. We were
brought up, until recently, with Christian ideals and beliefs,
which doesn't make one better. It's just the way God wants
us to live for him.

Now it's become twisted over the last 40 some odd years. I'm
just over 40 now, but have seen just from watching television
over the years, the slow brainwashing and degeneration effect
its had on people. You never saw homosexuality being praised
on Night Court or the Cosby Show.

You can blame it on the TV if you want, and perhaps that is true for some people, but that wasn't the reason for my change in belief.

Take another example, sex before marriage. I saw lots of TV shows when I was younger which made sex before marriage look like a good thing. I nevertheless disagreed throughout most of my teenage years. I only changed my mind on the morality of the issue once I thought about it and had reasons to change my mind. It wasn't about the TV.

Would you say the same about incestuous relationships, and polygamy? Or is that somehow "like totally differentz an' stuffz"?

Polygamy certainly is in the same category as homosexuality or interracial marriage. Incest kind of is however it is with the negative that unlike the other 3, people can be hurt by incest.

I would also like to point out that both incest and polygamy are all over the bible so if you are calling them sexual immorality then this means you feel god is ok with sexual immorality.

I agree Strathos that it is up to the parent's. It just worries me
a little to know that some parent's aren't all that bright, and
permit their kids to watch UFC. Let's face it, not all parent's
should have had kids.

And not just that. A lot of what is on TV is so anti-Christian
it isn't funny. Commercialism, materialism, perversion etc.

Well yes but we can't exactly require people to pass a test before being allowed to have kids or something.

(deletion mine, as that example was irrelevant)
You ARE aware that I was talking about consenting adults, right? As I've said before: Pedophilia has NOTHING to do with anything of this. It is rape, and violation, and nothing more.

I would also like to point out that both incest and polygamy are all over the bible so if you are calling them sexual immorality then this means you feel god is ok with sexual immorality.

That would be the case.....if such relations were described in a positive light: "And God blessed X who married his sister Y", for instance.
Nothing of the kind exists.

In fact, where polygamy and incest is described, it is associated with problems. Solomon's many wives, for instance.

You're obviously distressed by the fact that the homosexuality taboo is collapsing. But the entertainment industry didn't create it. This is a long-term societal trend that's been in progress for at least the last 30 years. And TV reflects it.

Not just two people, Paradoxum. Two people of the same sex
doing lewd things with each other. It clearly states in the Bible
that man shall not lay with man, or woman with woman.

(bold emphasis mine). The Bible does not "clearly state" the part in bold.

I think you have cause and effect backwards. Society is mostly OK with teh gay--many of us have gay friends or relatives who are now out-- and that's why TV can now reflect this.

Think of your ancestors.

From what I hear, drunkards and horse thieves, the lot of them.

Is there something wrong with confusion? Maybe we shouldn't send them to school. They might get confused by multiplication.

It's really the parents who get confused by "lattice multiplication." I'm pretty sure that's much closer to an abomination--making math slower than it has to be!-- than anything else mentioned in this thread.

I'm not sure how the example is irrelevant, but ok?

The victims I was talking about are the potential children with birth defects. Now I know there is a whole argument to be made about this, but this isn't the thread for it.

God doesn't have a problem letting people know when he has issues with things. I mean the guy orders people killed if they don't honor him by not working on saturdays, and most modern day Christians feel he destroyed entire cities and ordered genocide for sexual immorality. Your now telling me he had an issue with incest and polygamy and chose not to say anything?

Because race isn't a deviation from normal sexuality, as long as both partners are homo sapiens sapiens. Since no other sentient species exist (at least on this planet, and no aliens have made First Contact yet...), cases where this is not the case, do not happen.

The victims I was talking about are the potential children with birth defects. Now I know there is a whole argument to be made about this, but this isn't the thread for it.

So because something MIGHT happen, these people should not have the same rights as everyone else? (do remember that I'm playing the part of advocatus diaboli at the moment...)
Well, children of homophiles (meaning adopted or artificially inseminated) risk crippling bullying. Isn't that as good an argument as the one you just brought forth?

God doesn't have a problem letting people know when he has issues with things. 1: I don't know how you arrive at "most modern day Christians". Have you spoken with all members of a a representative group of the more than 2 billion Christians?

2: The Bible is actually pretty clear on matters of incest...

OK. What are the different types of discrimination and where do racism and homophobia fit in?

What do you define as 'normal sexuality'? If enough people do it, is it normal?

To me, normal sexuality is any sexuality that a sizable portion of the population partakes in, and last time I checked homosexuality isn't exactly rare.

So because something MIGHT happen, these people should not have the same rights as everyone else? (do remember that I'm playing the part of advocatus diaboli at the moment...)

Firstly I should point out that I am actually for legalization of incest, just that I don't consider it in the same category as people are potentially harmed.

Also when I talk about harm, I mean tangible harm not affected by society. Children of interracial couples are also targets for bullying but this is because of other people, not due to something inherent in there genes. Therein lies the difference.

1: I don't know how you arrive at "most modern day Christians". Have you spoken with all members of a a representative group of the more than 2 billion Christians?
I have spent time learning the various belief systems Christians have, and spoken to hundreds of them. I am not claiming to have perfect knowledge or be an expert but my opinion is not uneducated.

2: The Bible is actually pretty clear on matters of incest...
And on polygamy?

Why are you comparing blacks, who are just people with a different
skin color, with others who choose to have sexual relations with
someone of the same sex?

Yes, homosexuality is a part of the real world now. More widespread
because of the people who promote it, want everyone to believe
that it's ok and normal. Now I'm not saying it's right to hate or
beat gays. I don't. All people will be judged for their iniquities.

Yea, blacks who bear the mark of Cain having sex with decent people who are not of a line descended from that evil.

Or that at least was what many preachers said 50 years ago. With as much Biblical understanding as those who today make homosexual acts into the one unforgivable sin.

Oh No a Christian who has actually read scripture. I'm betting you are even aware of the one backhanded place where Paul includes woman on woman sex. (As a result, not a cause of sin).
