  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Smoking. As soon as I see a cigarrette--I am turned off.
Alot of Make--up. A little is fine--but I am turned off by women who use alot of it & obsess over their looks.
Constantly putting me down or being critical of everything I do & say. That turns me off real fast. Again--a bit of criticism is fine--but if that's all I hear--I will not spend time with that woman.
There are other turn-offs--but those are the big ones for me personally.

I understand naming and even listing characteristics of 'bad/offensive behavior' (such as dishonesty, rudeness, arrogance, belittling, cursing, drunkedness, controlling and proprietary nature etc.) as 'turn-offs'. It's good to advice people to change their ways from such behavior. That can be very constructive and edifying.

However, when it's about characteristics that can not be characterized as 'bad/offensive behavior' but rather as 'weaknesses' (such as insecurity, lack of ambition, neediness) or even innate, God-given traits (such as certain physical characteristics) or something like 'lack of education'... when you explicitly label that kind of things as 'turn-offs' and even add "yuck:sick:, I don't 'like' girls/guys who are like that" in the end, well... at least you're not doing anything constructive or edifying toward anyone.

My top turn-offs are:

-someone who cares more about my physical appearance than what's on the inside.
-someone who is disrespectful to me or to others around him.
-someone who would rather point out my flaws than take a look at himself and try to make positive changes.

there is such things as genetics though... Just because someone is big doesn't mean they eat alot.

I second that. My best friend Andrea used to be tiny. She started gaining weight and they didn't know why. She gained 100 pounds in a year and nothing in her diet or excerise regimine changed. They did a catscan and found a pituitary tumor which was the culprit. They got her on medication and she's loosing weight now.

SOME people it's genetics, some people it's medical... but James you're right everyone has the choice not to eat too much. Some people make the choice to not eat at all. And that's no worse than eating too much. Being a your individual healthy weight is ideal. Some may or may not care to be there though. It's all a matter of personal opinion and choice.

If you're going to call them stupid, you might want to be sure to spell BLONDES correctly... :p
Hah, I'm a blonde, so I'm not particularly fond of my flaxen-haired men.

Blond is the masculine term. XD.

Overweight girls make me sad. I can manage to overlook physical flaws if the girl is otherwise attractive, but everyone has the choice to not eat too much.

Nothing wrong with being a little overweight. Whlie I am no longer so myself (not fit yet, just normal), a bit overweight can be OK. Completely out of shape is not at all healthy (and there are women who are, even if skinny). Also, (morbidly) obese isn't healthy either.

I know many people (family members + more) who have dealt with health problems because of being overweight. It was an issue with myself, actually. I would prefer not to deal with at all, and especially not young in life, so I find being unhealthy (obese or not) to be a turnoff.

List much appreciated. I believe every male including myself should take these ones into serious consideration.

-myopic about her career

Does 'letting God lead the way' in contrast with 'ambitious career planning' count as myopic?

Brats (spoiled high and mighty etc), Fad followers, Overly concerned with appearance, and women who say they wish there were nice guys around, but ignore the nice guys until they have had their fun with the bad boys and then need someone to give them a pick me up.
