Turbulence injures passengers on American flight - CNN.com

American Flight 280 departed Incheon International Airport near Seoul in route to Dallas-Fort Worth when an intense winter storm shook the cabin and caused injuries that forced the aircraft to divert.
Medical personnel have been able to evaluate the 14 passengers and crew members who asked for medical attention, said American spokeswoman Andrea Huguely in statement.

Thats why you should stay in your seat with the seatbelt fastened as much as possible. It can happen anytime without warning.

It's not that bad. I've only had a few near-death experiences while flying:

Most airline mishaps are survivable. Helicopters ... not so much.

Oh, I'm aware of the statistics and how safe it is. I can even enjoy flying. Going through turbulence and landings still freak me out.

Well, even in this case the wings didn't get ripped off, or anything too catastrophic. :)

When you look at the number of traffic fatalities mile for mile, flying is still *much* safer than driving in your own car.

The only flight that will scare me is the one that actually doesn't make it.

My flight home from Germany was one event after another.
Plane late 8hrs, Crew was waiting with us, so we had to fly to england to pick up fresh crew(international flight would put the crew over max hours)
Landed in England, no crew.
Windshield wiper fell off.---fell off. So they had to replace it, 1 hour 20 minutes.
Taxi out towards the runway.
"Prepare the cabin for take off" The attendant attempts to seal the door in front of me three times, then gets someone else.
Maintence out to fix the door. 1 hour 45 minutes.
Finally get into the air.
Turbulence is expected for most of the trip. Bouncing around over the ocean.
This is when I experienced a free fall, I didn't count from the beginning, but seconds into the fall I counted 1thousand one, one thousand...free fall ended.
Luckily no one was standing.
90% of the trip was bouncing in a plane that had to have maitence twice that I know of, possibility that was why it was 8 hours late.
So when I landed was happy to get off the plane in St Louis.
side note:
It was snowing when I left Germany, It was snowing in St Louis, it was snowing in Tucson Arizona when I landed, after my leave I went to Greece. It was snowing there! [Granted Germany and St Louis is not uncomon to have snow in January, but Arizona and Greece was not.
