  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I'm sure that's also what was being said when some of the first trains were being loaded up.

This is alarming behavior from the US government. It shouldn't matter what a person's politics are, this should make every American's blood run cold.

Yeah still a ridiculous comparison. Just curious where this deathcamp is located where she is being held and stuffed into a gas chamber. I think I'd like to go there and protest along side with you. It's something we could find common around on.

We have to expect the Party that’s told us for sixty years how bad government is when it tries to “do things”, to be bad at doing things, it’s their brand. The more incompetent they seem to be, the more correct they are in repeating their favorite mantra.

Win-win.

Most people do not consider cancelling a visa as being alarming.

If we operate on that basis, then we can presume anyone and everyone is guilty of anything all the time.

Thus far the sole reason offered for why she was abducted is because she wrote something in her school paper which was critical of the school's position on the situation in Gaza. The only reason thus far provided is that she legally exercised her right to free speech and is now being punished for it. Without any further evidence, there is no reason to believe other than what the presently known facts indicate.

We are presuming that government employees are doing their job most of the time. When we find out otherwise, such as when the Biden administration admitted they had lost track of hundreds of thousands of children and were not bothering to find out what happened to them, then it is at least a big story. Someone may come to the attention of U.S. authorities and then the government looks at all of the facts and makes a decision. Government employees are not requited to "cite" a reason to the press or public. It is done, the lower courts have no valid legal basis to interfere:

I hate to break it to you but Trump didn't send him anywhere. Trump also didn't order that he be sent there.

No kidding. Do people think that Bidens and Obamas administrations never canceled anyone's visas and sent them home? Did they offer explanations everytime they did it to the press?

Right...just his administartion under his orders, by people he hired.
As much of a bummer as that is, I think the over all record is pretty good.

I mean even in our justice system innocent people are found guilty and some have even been killed. Police have shot innocent people. People are killed in car crashes. Children are molested. It's the world we live in where people make mistakes. Sometimes serious one's and people suffer for it. I'm not going to.demand we cease all activity because someone was inadvertently sent away when they shoildnt have been. We might as well not have any jails or cars or teachers or parents or priests.

It seems a bit unrealistic to suggest that theae things have to be perfect or we can't do it.

Given how this isn't just one small incident, and multiple people and their response was, "oopsies, but we can't fix." a bit more. And you do realize many of those mistakes are from corruption the desire to get someone to say they did it at any cost...just like this. Hey shouldn't be sending ANYONE to el salvatore, least of all a death jail, but yeah just keep telling you small mistake Oopsie did I do that?

Doesn't change a thing concerning unrealistic expectations of perfections from government. There has never been a government in the history of mankind that hasn't made bad mistakes.

This was a bad mistake and needs to be fixed.

of course not, but there is a difference from, "We accidently jailed someone." to, "We accidently sent the wrong people to jail in another country and OOPSIE we can't get them back" stever earcles, "Did I do that!!!."

Edit: the post below is muddled because I was thinking of the fellow sent to El Salvador while this thread is about the Tufts student. Oops! Please ignore the below text!

Had we not skipped due process, I suspect that he never would have been deported in the first place. But the current administration doesn’t seem to like due process, and probably other things in that pesky old constitution.

Edit: this is the scary part. The government grabbing someone off the street, producing zero evidence to support their claim, not even slowing down for basic due process, and shipping someone to a horrific mega prison. And Trump has talked about doing the same with citizens.

DHS ordered a US citizen and immigration attorney to leave the country on Friday. Of course it was a mistake. Can't link it from my phone but easy to find.
Remember when we were told it was only non-citizens they were concerned with?

View attachment 363536

I mean sure, this is probably a mistake, intended for one of her unnamed clients, but... hey, it wouldn't be the first mistaken deportation this month.

Judge orders detained Tufts student Rumeysa Öztürk to be transferred back to Vermont

The student was grabbed off the street by immigration officials. The Trump administration is seeking to deport her after she co-wrote an essay about Israel and Gaza.

Judge William K. Sessions III stayed his order for four days to give the government a chance to appeal.

She co-wrote an opinion essay in 2024 for the student newspaper that called on Tufts to “acknowledge the Palestinian genocide,” which the undergraduate student government had demanded in a resolution.

The essay criticized university leadership for its response to the student government’s resolutions that it “disclose its investments and divest from companies with direct or indirect ties to Israel.”

Tufts doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk to be released on bail

Rümeysa Öztürk, the Tufts doctoral student detained by ICE in Somerville earlier this year, will be released on bail as her immigration case is pending, a federal judge ruled Friday.

The American Civil Liberties Union confirmed the news Friday afternoon.

Öztürk was released Friday on her own recognizance with no travel restrictions, Sessions said. He said she is not a danger to the community or a flight risk, but that he might amend his release order to consider any specific conditions by ICE.

He said he didn’t think electronic monitoring would be in order, and that she would also check in with a staffer of the Burlington Community Justice Center for supervisory checks.
