Looking at where this thread is going I suspect God has been at work, in His usual subtle way. I just came online to say that I woudln't be around much for a couple of weeks due to exam marking and lots of other things keeping me busy, but that I would still be praying for you all!

And that as a temporary parting shot I wanted to pass on some excellent nutritional advice I was given - and who knows, it may help us all! Thyroids, PCOS, mystery lack of babies...

Sub-clinical malnutrition is widespread (apparently). For healthier hormones, increased chances of conceiving and healthier babies try the following foods, which contain larger than usual amounts of those vits and minerals we need most do conceive:

  • seeds, esp. pumpkin and sesame
  • oats
  • avocado
  • walnuts
  • extra-virgin olive oil
  • celery
  • bananas
Try to either go vegetarian or buy organic / free range meat, to avoid ingesting chemicals and hormones from animal medicines and treated animal feed

Avoid:
  • fats in excess, which increase the body's need for vit E
  • refined carbohydrates (white flour etc)
  • tea and coffee, except herbal teas
  • alcohol only in moderation ie a glass of red wine is fine
So oats for breakfast for all of us! Added benefit that it is slow release energy, which means you are less likely to suffer a sugar dip which could lead to refined carb bingeing (who hasn't been there?!)
We also ate a lot of humous which has both olive oil and sesame seeds - a double bonus. It is nice with toasted wholemeal pitta breads and makes a great snack. If you can't get it locally, it is really easy to make. Here's a recipe http://www.cooks.com/rec/doc/0,1615,133180-247194,00.html

So ladies, please take care of yourselves, and I will keep praying for us all, and most especially my prayer buddy!

See you in a couple of weeks - with lots of BFP!!!!!

 all round

Okay, my husband and I are going to start trying after our 1st anniversary, which is in October. What should I do to get my body prepared? I have a feeling it isnt going to be easy for me to conceive. I know alot of prayer and vitamins....but what vitamin do I need to take the most. Also right now I am not having regular periods....I havent had my period since febuary. Its not unusual for me since I have been irregular for 3 years. I have talked to my doctor and took a pap smear and all...it came back normal and she just diagnosed me with secondary amenorrhea. Sooo...? I am not sure what could possibly put me back on track with my periods...also my thyroid was low...anything I could take for that...my doc acted like it wasnt much a big deal....I dunno?Help
i have a hard time taking vitamins... i was on prenatal but i just had to stop... i take flinstone vitamins daily.... my friend who recently had a baby took flinstones through her whole pregnancy, her doctor says it has everything needed. they are yummy, too!

One last tip for I really do go:

Make smoothies! banana with whatever juices you fancy, break open a brewers' yeast capsule (or buy powder) into it for extra B vits and add a tablespoon of wheat germ for extra vit E and fibre. Soja milk, which is gross normally, is great when you add some to a smoothie - it takes the sharp edge off orange juice and adds non-animal protein to your glass of health.

If you have struggled with anorexia this is a good way to eat when you don't much feel like eating. Zinc deficiencies also lead to loss of appetite (and hormone problems!!!) so you could consider a supplement there too - or shellfish, fatty fish like canned sardines, eggs, wheatgerm and nuts.

Bon appetit everyone! And here's to bonny babies!

OK - I thought if you might happen to be around here I could help you out (I'm in Houston). Anywho - I would seriously consider a new Dr. Or, maybe your Dr just doesn't realize you want to start having children soon, so s/he isn't concerned about getting your body ready to get pregnant yet??

They took eight vials of blood from me yesterday to start running some tests... with that much blood, I hope they figure something out! He told me "you have x amount of blood in your body and we are taking out x amount, so you should still have some left! :) Usually I get these grouchy lab people, but this guy was really great! I didn't feel a thing! Now just waiting on mine and DH's results...

Jenrenee - praying for results that will give you some options on treatment or even better, a BFP!! Friends of mine tried for over a year, they started the testing process and found out they were pregnant before the results even came back.

Praying for everyone - Lord Jesus please bless all of the ladies who are TTC with patience and strength and peace. Help us to wait on your timing and look forward to the day when you bless us with a child. We are confident that you are more than able to do this, Author of Life. Would you bring to all of us a child to nurture and love? Amen!

Isn't it funny - I just started eating porridge (oats) in the mornings and have recently started eating bananas each day and I didn't even know this!
