Hi everybody,
I play the drums in our church, and I usually play to CDs, but lately I have been having trouble finding any good ones..Not because there is not many of them, but because I dont like the direction that many of them have taken. (I am not putting anyone down, and I do not mean to offend anyone (just for the moderator to know :)
It seems that a lot of the bands that I usually listen to, now focus so much on solos, and lead singer and stuff that the actual worship kinda disapears...I am the kind of person who does not like Solos in worship..I like it very much otherwise, but not worship...it can turn worship into just songs....
I listened a lot to delerious at a time, but now they do the same....

from what I have written do you know of anyone good that I should try to listen to?
I like Jeremy Camps CD. It is also centered around his voice, but it doesnt matter as he is not "taking over" if you know what I mean....

I can suggest Riverview Worship... im not sure... the latest album Encounter is a unique style of worship in an intimate setting... there is a lot of solo's i must admit but the songs have very humble lyrics like... "all i have is you" "he has rescued me", i'm lost for words", "i am weak a broken"... but then again this may not be what you're looking for but it is unique to most modern praise and worship...

Hi Punk,

Jeremy Camp's CD is great. Some other artists that I REALLY recommend are Chris Tomlin, Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, and maybe even David Crowder. That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now.

Another thing I would like to say about music centered music is that you can also worship God with your music, and not your voice. In the Psalms it talks about praising God with instruments. In a time of just straight music, it can be a really great time to just worship God in Spirit through the music (there is truth and there is also Spirit). The only problem with solo's or such is when the focus goes onto the killer guitar lead the guy is doing up on stage. But if you look at many of these guys in concert, like Tim Hughes, Matt Redman, Delirious, or Chris Tomlin, all the focus is going totally to God and these guys are just pouring out their hearts to Him. Playing music to God is also a way to worship, I believe, just as singing. Just my thoughts as musician myself. :)

well, please do not misunderstand me, what I am talking about is an individual thing. I have developed a distaste for worship music which (again according to my oppinion) have adopted a style I do not like.
But at the same time, most people I know like this concert/worship style.
So I am not trying to put anyone down, I am simply looking for the style that will not distract me ....

Sounds wierd, but its an individual thing

Hey, Donkey. I feel your pain about the sorry state of P & W music these days. With most CCM, actually.

Anyway, I've gotten to the point where the only P & W stuff I listen to is David Crowder. If you're looking for something "different", without solos and the other cliched P & W stuff, then do yourself a favor and pick up his newest album "Collision".

I'm a drummer, too, and I know you'll appreciate Jeremy Bush's style.

Let me know whatcha think about it...

yap, listen to Foo, I totally agree with that remark. Listen to Crowder, but especially this latest album Collision. BUT I still recommend Illuminate as well.

Within the worship genre you will still find a few good beats and drum bits off some of the more recent Hillsong or United albums... even a bit of the newer Newsboys stuff features some more interesting beats... I have noticed since U2's beautiful day and Coldplay's clocks - both songs have a similar beat - that many christian songs have copied that beat... I know I have in one song I wrote...
