Surviving, you sound heavy hearted. This must be such a difficult burden to bear. My prayers are with you. Has your husband also been tested in regards to his sperm count?
Thanks very much. Prayers are really appreciated. As for my husband, yes he has been tested and it came back really positive. So, that only means me! :( At least there is only one of us to worry about.

Just to let you all know that I had an operation about a month ago, which worked out ok. They took a look to see if my tubes were blocked, amongst other things. It looks like one of them is blocked. I go back today for a consultation to see what happens next. Please think of me.

I didn't cope very well a month ago, but I seem to be doing ok and not thinking about it much at the moment. How do you guys keep up beat about all this?

I want to give you hope. I used to hate these stories when we were TTC but now I understand why people would tell me.

You had a laprascopy done right? I had one done in October. I was also told that my right tube was completely blocked. From there I was referred to a fertility clinic where I met with a new doctor who went over my lab report. He was not convinced that my tube was blocked. He explained to me that when the uterus is under stress (In this case, it was just operated on and endo was removed from it) the tubes can sometimes swell up and not allow the dye to go through. So my fertility specialist was NOT convinced that my tube was blocked although the op report said it was.

My fertility doctor went with the assumption that it was not blocked until he was proven otherwise. But he did tell me that if it *was* blocked there is hope. There is a procedure that can be done where they insert a long cathater to see if they can get it back open. Also IVF is still possible even with a blocked tube.

However, having said that... God is bigger than any blocked or unblocked tube. I can say that because I am living proof. We were told that we would never conceive naturally (which we did- the 1 month we took a "break" from drugs, procedures, temping etc.). God had other (better) plans. I am not pregnant and it's truly a miracle.

Now I can't say that God will heal you and everything will be fine. What I am saying is don't doubt the unpossible. WE tried for a very long year and a half. I endured surgeries, my husband and I both endured embarassing procedures, drugs, injections you name it.

So please don't give up hope. You still have PLENTY of options. I HIGHLY recomend getting a referral to a fertility specialist. And the good news is if it has been deemed that you are medically unfertile then most of the time insurance will cover it (mine was). Even our IUI's were partly covered!! So I highly recomend getting a referral to a fert specialist and getting a second opinion.

Thank you very much for your encouragment. It is very uplifting and congratulations. It's good to know that God does work.

As I said earlier, I had an appointment to see the doctor...not that he was much good. He was so useless. He started off by talking about the procedure (and yes, it was a laparoscopy). He said that he think that the tube that may have been blocked was ok, and that it was just irritated by the procedure. The other one is fine. He also said that everything else was ok as well, and medically, there is nothing wrong that they can see and can't explain why things aren't working.

He then mentioned that the next step would be to put me on clomid tablets for three months, but he mentioned that because I am already ovulating well it probably won't work. He then mentioned IEF (which costs around £700) and then IVF after that (which costs £4,000+). But, he then saw that I didn't live in the area surrounding the hospital and that I wouldn't be able to be put on the IVF list, which is a 4 year wait anyway!

Ok, so why have I just wasted my time!! This really hasn't helped me. He then changed his mind about the Clomid and has prescribed my 6 months worth. The only information that he gave me was to take these tablets on the first five days of my cycle for 6 months and if it doesn't work to contact my GP to refer me to my closer hospital, and that there was no point in coming back to him as they can't do anything further for me. So, how useless was he?!?! VERY!

After speaking to a friend, she is going through the same thing, and knows others that have tried this drug with positive outcomes. She says that I need to take the drug between the 2nd and 6th day of my cycle, and that I am supposed to have blood tests to see if it works or not. Well, this doctor never said anything like this. She gave me a number to ring, which I have tried and am just waiting for a call back. I am also going to ring my GP and see if she can help at all.

I was just so upset after the appointment. I kind of though...why? What's the point? It was all for nothing and I feel I haven't got anywhere. I have been trying now for nearly 4 years, and I am giving myself until I am 30. If I haven't conceived by then, we will look at adoption.

wow - I would find another Dr - this one sounds awful.

Putting you on clomid w/o any monitoring is scary stuff. SOTFB was put on it - and monitored and had several eggs - she could have easily ended up with twins or triplets - or more.

Yeah that is definitely true. Not to mention with Clomid you have a high risk of ovaria cysts. That's why after every unsuccessful clomid cycle they would (or should) do an interauterine ultrasound to make sure there are no cysts. If there are cysts you need to skip doing clomid that cycle.

And yes as previously mentioned- I ovulated regularly and had no problems in that area. My doctor prescribed my the normal clomid doses and I ended up with 4 extremely large follicles. That month I had a possibility for quadruplets.

So because of that he knew that my body responded VERY well to the clomid and he knew to scale my dosage WAY back.

I'm sorry but I would not feel comfortable taking the medication with the directions that he gave you. Most women who are put on clomid are very closely monitored. I would seek out a new doctor and not use the clomid until you can be properly montiored.

yeah, I would find a new dr too. He souds pretty useless and insympathetic. I would do a bit of research about the info he did give you, then accost a new dr with lots of questions!

Both my kidlets were concieved on clomid (and a lot of prayer!). They always monitored the first month to check the dosage was right. Usually just a day 21 blood test to check if you have ovulated. If you have any q's I'd be happy to answer.

Thanks everyone about the advice. I spoke to a fertility nurse that was recomended to me by my friend. She sais that not everyone has a blood test on day 21, and seeing that I am already ovulating, there was probably no need to check this out. She told me about the side effects and said to carry on as normal. She is going to llok into my notes in the meantime and ring me back next week.

As for the doctor, she apologised so much for him as I shouldn't have been treated like this. I will have to go back to my own GP though at some point as if clomid doesn't work, we will have to look at other options. I found out though my GP has just come back off maternity leave!
