about gods love
is as real as you decide it is. it is an internal thing to give you motivation.
someones killed tomorrow, god would still 'love' them. its up to you to decide how much weight the phrase god loves you holds.
everyone wants to believe something/someone is looking out for them, because they need something to be constant. people want to believe. the god described in the bible (who may be everything, nothing, or a million variations in between) is a concept that cannot be disproved.
if people want to believe, they will create a reality out of a concept.
there are 3 types of people who believe in god
1) where they have a good life and god conveniently fits in with that
2) things are bad, and someone needs a crux to hold onto, to either help them thro it, or to give them the motivation to get thro it themselves
3) parents were religious and havent questionned
prayer. a definition
prayer has 3 functions
1. trusting that wrong is right
2. allowing you to feel at ease with yourself when it goes wrong
3. giving a team feeling about a problem.
prayer is a mechanism to allow the giver and receiver the inside feeling that you have done as much as possible in a situation you have no control of.
so later down the line when it all goes wrong you can feel at ease with yourself that you did as much as you could.
this is why prayers are given the get out clause of always being 'answered', but not in the way you want. is is up to you to trust that whatever the outcome, it what was meant to happen.
pray for an outcome, it doesnt happen. you have two options
a) be upset about it, wonder why and start to distrust or
b) be re assured that wrong is right.
it is up to you how persistant you are in accepting b) as ok.
once you start realising you have been let down (it is up to you to decide what is a fail),
all previously failures (which were previously held up by trust) makes sense.
prayer is about manupulating your attitude, in concentrating on the good, and dismissing the bad. which is fine if you have no issues with your perception being biased to ignore the bad
mysterious ways
given that 10 people are involved in the outcome to a prayer. say each person is 75% good, 25% bad. 10 lots of 75% good, will make the outcome seem mysterious.
do you trust god.
means.
you have no control over what happens. do you think it's under control.
the more you learn about science and reality, the less credibility religion has.
religion is for people who havent figured out reality.
and is quite dangerous, because religion actually means people have less chance of learning. not a scientist. an actuallist.
the fact is this. bad will happen. the concept of god will not stop it. the purpose of 'god' is to give you re assurance that although bad happens, there is something taking care of the big picture. when something bad happens, you can either take re assurance, or not. if you want to spend your entire life floating through a bubble of 'its ok' (lets be honest. it aint. japans earthquake could happen every month for the next 50 years). happy brainwashing.
no need to diss.
Rowan Williams.
oh dear. no action needed.
religion isn't stuck in the 18th century. it just thinks it is.
there is a reason why people accept or dont accept the concept of religion.
their lives can be better without it. religion is quite rightly, quite insulting to a lot of
people. who says its right - because the book says its right ? are ppl mental ? or just clinging onto something they want to be true.
let me distribute a leaflet with mickey mouse saying "i am the way the truth and the life". must be true. says it there on the page.
if you want to insult this with the concept of your belief in prayer, that is your selfish choice. The only difference in the universe will be what thoughts you have running round in your own head. "well, ive done my best. i can selfishly feel good about myself".
