A Capitol Police timeline obtained by Just the News shows the Trump Pentagon first offered National Guard troops to the Capitol Police on Jan. 2, 2021, four full days before the event. The police turned down the offer but then began to have second thoughts. The Capitol Police then asked their political minders — the House sergeant at arms chief among them — for permission to accept the troops on Jan. 4 but were turned down on the ground that such a show of force would create bad "optics," the records show. . .

Despite the warnings, the president’s offer of troops wasn’t accepted and the Capitol Police did not take a security posture on Jan. 6 commensurate with the threats.

To date, the House committee investigating Jan. 6 hasn’t provided a complete explanation why.

Lols, that is from John Solomon and Just the News - although the Star News is interesting.

Yes, I know that doesn't mean the article isn't true, but the article is Trumpist propaganda.

Since the President is CINC of DC National Guard, I'd say less than 10 minutes to make a few phone calls.

Unfortunately we don't have T****'s phone records of that day because he was using burner phones to cover up his criminal activity.

Oh no....burner phones???

So devious....so sneaky....no wonder he can't be stopped. He's thought of everything.

From yon article:
“If Donald Trump wanted to incite violence that fateful day, as his critics suggest, then why did he order the Pentagon to have a large military force ready to quell a disturbance?”

This isn’t the “good thing” the OP seems to want it to be.
Having “a large military force ready to quell a disturbance…” would have been necessary if he had invoked the Insurrection Act and declared martial law for the District of Columbia.
But Vice-President Pence would not leave the Capitol and this contingency plan wasn’t implemented.

There's an Insurrection Act?

Someone should tell the January 6th committee there's an Act with this incident written all over it.

Lemme get this right....because I had something bonkers stuck in my eye when I read this....

The fact that Trump didn't provide adequate security is evidence he was behind these shenanigans....

Also, the fact that he requested extra security....and was denied...is evidence he planned to use them for a military takeover?

the fact that he requested extra security....and was denied...is evidence he planned to use them for a military takeover?
On Fox News, prime-time personality Sean Hannity falsely insisted that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, not former President Donald Trump, was to blame for the violence at the US Capitol.

"Don't forget, President Trump requested increased National Guard support in the days leading up to January 6," Hannity claimed last December, asserting that the request was rejected by the Democratic Speaker of the House. And his guest, former Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, eagerly joined in, claiming the former president had actually wanted "10,000 National Guard troops" to "make sure that everything was safe and secure."

The committee investigating January 6 has already heard testimony that Trump watched the violence at the Capitol unfold on television — on Fox News — and never made a call for the military to quell the violence.

But in testimony before the committee that was released Tuesday, former Acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller confirmed that no request was made before January 6, either.

Trump never gave order to deploy National Guard ahead of January 6, former defense secretary testifies

Also, the fact that he requested extra security....

He did not make any such order. The commander in chief can't just wonder out loud (supposing he did). No such order was received.

One of the biggest lies that former President Trump and his allies have perpetuated about January 6th is that Trump ordered the National Guard to secure the Capitol.
...

In February 2021, Meadows told Fox News host Maria Bartiromo, “As many as 10,000 National Guard troops were told to be on the ready by the secretary of defense. That was a direct order from President Trump.”

That lie has now been decisively put to rest.

Yesterday, the House January 6th Committee revealed testimony from Christopher Miller, Trump’s acting secretary of defense, rejecting the notion that Trump ordered thousands of Guard troops to be standing by:

There is no evidence that he gave such an order.

In a video message the next day, Trump claimed “I immediately deployed the National Guard and federal law enforcement to secure the building and expel the intruders.”
Trump’s Jan. 6th National Guard Lie Crumbles

Christopher Miller isn't the only authority to give testimony that Trump never called for the National Guard neither before the 6th nor on the 6th
General Mark Milley testified that he never heard from Trump but that it was VP Pence that took control that day and called for help from the National Guard.

Accepting news as gospel from news sources involved in hoaxes is not wise. Check out documentation fro yourself. Read the DoD Inspector General memo for yourself.

We have been through the Russia Russia Russia hoax and the Hunter Biden Russian disinformation hoax, and a number of networks continue to suppress the news on sexual assaults and child trafficking due to a pretty much open southern border and suppress the news on corrupt executive branch agencies withholding information on the Hunter Biden criminal enterprise. Take the time to check out information for
yourself, I do.

What about the testimony from Christopher Miller, who served as Trump's acting Defense Secretary; Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Vice president Pence's national security adviser Keith Kellogg, and Nick Luna a senior White House aide who served as a personal assistant to Trump? They all contradict the claim that Trump offered to deploy the National Guard to protect the Capitol.

As to Mr. Miller, recall the Inspector General's report, my highlighting:

Mr. Miller and GEN Milley met with the President at the White House at 5:30 p.m. The primary topic they discussed was unrelated to the scheduled rally. GEN Milley told us that at the end of the meeting, the President told Mr. Miller that there would be a large number of protestors on January 6, 2021, and Mr. Miller should ensure sufficient National Guard or Soldiers would be there to make sure it was a safe event. Gen Milley told us that Mr. Miller responded, “We’ve got a plan and we’ve got it covered.”

The DOD had a contingency plan, I don't know of anyone who has blamed the DOD for not being prepared to respond upon request.
The point is the command never came until VP Pence stood in for the missing President and gave the command that Gen. Milley testified to.

I have yet to hear an explanation for the Commander n Chief failing to act while the entire Legislative Branch of government and his Vice President was under attack.

Me, too. I never expected much from Trump but I wasn't prepared for this grievous lack of due diligence, scandalous arrogance, and cold-hearted determinism.

I haven't been watching the hearings, but have they addressed the fact that Pence legally didn't have the authority to issue orders to the military and they listened did anyway? That's problematic in itself.
They addressed the threat to human life when the VP gave the order.
Lives were being threatened and Trump was AOL. When the President fails to do his duty the responsibility falls to the VP.
We can argue about whether it was legal for VP to step up at that point but when it comes down to protecting lives self-defense wins out.

I don't believe that specific point has been raised. My understanding is the cabinet would need to invoke the 25th amendment and hand over power to the VP. That would have been impossible to do in the hours when the Capitol was under attack (...the VP was, after all, under attack)...but the cabinet certainly could have met the following day and invoked the 25th...and should have IMO. For a President not to act to defend the capitol is a blatant dereliction of duty.
