I never have, so get off it.

Surely, you do not expect us to believe that.

The "continue being a constitutional republic" blather is shown to be phony by the fact that the left-wing opposition to the 2016 election results, from "DAY ONE" of the Trump administration--indeed from before Inauguration Day--was calling him illegitimate and vowing to do whatever it took to get him out of office.

It is not possible, therefore, to be alarmed at any decisions made by that administration before any were made.

Oh yes, you did. I am on the left and this is what I honestly believe no matter what pathetic excuse you come up with to discount it.

You may honestly believe it, but if so it's still propaganda that's not based upon truth. And in any case, what I said was that you cannot expect us to believe it (since we are aware of the history of these kinds of outrageous claims).

No, what you said was that my stated belied was "phony". That says nothing about what you believe but about what I stated.

True, but we do NOT talk about all the deaths associated with the Clintons. That is hush hush.
People still talk about those conspiracy theories.
"They" also talk about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, but there really is nothing in recent memory that competes with the fixation on Donald Trump that has been the #1 issue with the political left since before he was elected and continuing even now when he's no longer in office.

Call me a liar again Albion.

Steady on big man. The delusions are immune to argument. It’s like trying to get the mould out of Stilton.

Those of us who wish to continue being a constitutional republic are looking to see how the last administration tried to usurp power since it is a distinct possibility he will try again. I find that to be a scary proposition so I want information to help combat it in the future.

To wit:

"Two-thirds of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say they would like to see former President Donald Trump continue to be a major political figure for many years to come, including 44% who say they would like him to run for president in 2024, according to a Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults conducted Sept. 13 to 19."

Would Republicans in 1975 feel that way about Nixon?

It is phony. But you that doesn't mean you don't believe it. Many people are fascinated by conspiracy theories, even very farfetched ones.

Definition of phony
(Entry 1 of 4)

: not genuine or real: such as
a(1) : intended to deceive or mislead
(2) : intended to defraud : counterfeit
b : arousing suspicion : probably dishonest something phony about the story
c : having no basis in fact : fictitious phony publicity stories
d : false, sham a phony name
e : making a false show: such as
(1) : hypocritical
(2) : specious

So you are saying you are using phony as in not based in fact? Then I apologize for my reaction. However, as you can see the most common definition is "intended to deceive or mislead". Hence my vexation with your statement.

Different times and people are scared. That always causes a trend towards authoritarianism. I would be curious to know if there were similar trends around the time of the great depression.

But that's not the issue, I hope you know.

The issue here is the fascination of the political Left with their bete noire Trump, not what Republicans think about him making another run for the White House.

I can't recall a time when the any American party was so unwilling to hold a leader accountable for his blatant attempts to overthrow the will of the people. When a president attempts to fire officials until he finds a stooge to carry out his will, that is what happens in banana republics.

There's a reason why principled men like Evan McMullin are choosing to run as Independents instead of Republicans....today's republican party has no principles.

No, the issue here is the Senate investigation, and what it's finding out about the last days of the Trump presidency.

Trump directly asked the Justice Department nine times to undermine the election result, and his chief of staff Mark Meadows broke administration policy by pressuring a Justice Department lawyer to investigate claims of election fraud, according to the report, which is based on witness interviews of top former Justice Department officials.

The committee report, the most comprehensive account so far of Trump's efforts to overturn the election, described his conduct as an abuse of presidential power.

Well, you've fabricated your own history of the Trump administration, so of course you can ask the question that way. But it has no meaning to those of us who know better what actually happened.

"Clark's proposal to wield DOJ's power to override the already-certified popular vote reflected a stunning distortion of DOJ's authority: DOJ protects ballot access and ballot integrity, but has no role in determining which candidate won a particular election," the committee wrote.

pffft... "Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee have released a report accusing former President Donald Trump of attempting to use the Justice Department to overturn Joe Biden’s electoral win"

"Its conclusions go against Democrat claims that Trump tried to “weaponize” the Justice Department and coerce it to overturn the results of the election and said according to available facts and evidence, Trump had listened to his senior DOJ and White House advisers and that he did not weaponize the DOJ for his personal or campaign purposes"

We know better and should be better then to just post 1/2 a story. I am shocked at how much this happens here.. but to get to hear read Jesus loves you died for you and no one get to the Father but through Jesus Christ. He loves you.

Thats why your here and don't even know it.. WOW to see God work in those who do not believe. Thank you Father.

3 takeaways from the Senate report on Trump’s brazen efforts to overturn the 2020 election

1. Jeffrey Clark as Trump’s willing pawn

According to the testimony, Clark continued to speak with Trump after being told not to by his superiors. (And threatened Rosen by basically saying, if you don't do Trump's will, Trump will replace you with me, and I'll do Trump's will.)

I [Donoghue] reminded [Clark] that I was his boss, that he was apparently continuing to violate the White House contact policy, that that letter was never going out while we were in charge of the Department. And I sort of orally reprimanded him on a number of points, including reaching out to witnesses, and [said] “Who told you to conduct investigations and interview witnesses,” and things like that. I was getting very heated. And then he turned to Acting AG Rosen, and he said, “Well, the President has offered me the position of Acting Attorney General. I told him I would let him know my decision on Monday. I need to think about that a little bit more.”

2. Trump’s own explicit comment that Rosen wouldn’t ‘overturn the election’

The objection wasn’t just that Rosen wouldn’t send a letter raising concerns about what happened in Georgia; it was that he wouldn’t do “anything to overturn the election.” And this, importantly, wasn’t just an offhand comment; it was how Trump began the meeting.

Add that to what Donoghue reported Trump said to Rosen and Donoghue on Dec. 27 — “just say the election was corrupt and leave the rest to me” — and it fills out the picture.

3. The inescapable, combined conclusion: A concerted effort to subvert democracy

All of these details — and the growing body of evidence — reinforce that this was precisely what we thought it was: an effort to use baseless claims to overturn an American election.

Golf-clap for Trump not carrying through his seditious plan.

But Trump is the permanent fixation of the liberals and socialists. He is the 'tried and true' whipping boy of the political left and about all that they can say to divert attention from the current administration's terrible record.
Trump is the fixation of his cult-base. Don’t think we are all unaware of how his followers talk about him on other platforms. We’ve seen what they post. Many literally worship him and believe he is their god-appointed savior. They’re still trying to overturn the election in his favor. They’re talking about mass executions of Democrats. They though FB going down was the beginning of the 10-day blackout during which Trump would violently avenge his enemies. Some have gone off the deep end and murdered family members over their conspiracy theories that he is at the center of. Many have cut off ties with family over their loyalty to him and the cult that has developed around him. They make countless memes featuring him as some kind of godlike hero.

He’s still a huge threat to the country. He’s the de facto leader of the Republican Party. Why wouldn’t we be talking about him?
