Agreed. There doesn't appear to much that is either masterful, nor particularly mindful about the man--though he is charismatic enough to be dangerous, just like any cult leader. Even on the left the mantra of "Trump is funny" exists for a reason--the guy doesn't say things that are insightful, intelligent, or even particularly coherent at times (a lot of the times), but he has a charisma, a "swagger" that he has developed over his lifetime which has benefited him in being as crooked as they come.

I've played D&D, someone can have a high CHA stat and a very low INT stat and still succeed in some crazy situations.
