Several high profile members of the Defense Policy Board were removed on Wednesday by the Trump administration, in yet another purge of longstanding foreign policy experts and national security establishment figures in the final days of the Trump era, according to three defense officials.

Members who were suddenly removed include former Secretaries of State Madeleine Albright and Henry Kissinger, former ranking member of the House Intelligence committee Jane Harman and former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, two of the officials said.

...officials said the members removed also included former Chief of Naval Operations, retired Adm. Gary Roughead, former chief operating officer at the Pentagon Rudy De Leon and former Bush deputy national security adviser J.D. Crouch II.

The Defense Policy Board is an outside advisory group of former high profile national security officials who "provide the Secretary of Defense and the Deputy Secretary of Defense, independent, informed advice and opinions

I still maintain that Trump continues to try to plan a military coup.

The legal proceedings are a distraction.

I was surprised to learn Kissinger was still alive. (He is 97.) Assuming he still has all his marbles I would love to hear his commentary on Trump's Presidency. It would be a delight!

I wonder if Pompeo is pushing for some sort of military action against Iran.

More likely he is trying to make it as hard as possible for Biden.

Only took 70 years for a President to heed Eisenhower's warning (and live) and finally someone partially dismantles the old military-industrial complex. Of course it has basically seen it's day anyway as a money maker what with the new environmental and health complexes..

And he waited four years to do this, because...

I have heard that his goal is revenge, not winning. He is trying to trash the White House as much as possible before he leaves.

History will not be kind to Trump.

The same reason the other team moaned for the last five years about Trump.. spite. (not to mention a last minute removal of some old hair clogging the drain of the swamp)

This would still be preferable to an actual attempted coup.

That doesn't make any sense. He could've 'drained the swamp' of them at any point over the past four years, but he let them stay where they were, collect money, and only got rid of them now...because of spite.

    What?

Kissinger thought Trump was good for the nation but he also was Obama's mentor. So who knows the real reason as of yet.. over China? Over an un-prosecuted war criminal still directing military policy? Because Albright is involved there must be a connection as to why. Perhaps to slow down globalization where any spite he harbours may lie..

Something like that. Trump thinks he won--or will otherwise secure a second term. He wants to build a fully isolationist administration.

Meh. All the damage trump does can be repaired beginning January 21.

Heck, even some of the damage he's already done to our relationships with our allies is already being repaired simply because our allies know trump is on his way out. I've heard from my cousins in Amsterdam that there is genuine optimism about a return to normal relationships between the US and our Western European allies.

Some yes, but some will be harder. Not everyone who was fired will still be available, and they will have been replaced by goons, who can’t always be instantly fired.

Biden will surely want to restore relationships with allies, but he won’t necessarily have the same policies as Obama.

Reestablishing trust will also be hard. The next election could go the other way. Meanwhile China is here to stay. It may be safer to cut a deal with them than to assume that the US will continue to support its allies.

If the whole West can act together, we have an enormous economy and lots of clout. But if we have to deal with China individually, it will be hard, even for the US.

Yeah, while it wouldn't be all of them, it hardly stands to reason it wouldn't be a problem either.

Nothing stopping trump supporters being in the army, nothing stopping them having a head full of Qrazy talk, and enough red lines have been breezed past by this administration already.

The US army have filters to filter out unsustainable candidates. They don't allow random joe to join the military.
