  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I would like to know what science is doing to alleviate the suffering going on in Africa.

Has science troubleshot this problem to see where it's coming from?

In what specific way(s) has the scientific method been applied to this?

Can science solve a problem without knowing what's causing it first?

If 'pennies a day' would alleviate one child's suffering, how many children could be alive today if it wasn't for the LHC or S.E.T.I.?

Why are you asking about the involvement of a much less reliable method, according to you? Why isn't God stepping in more?

Where is your faith?
Let's leave God out of this, eh?

I'm asking very specific questions, and would like very specific answers.

Especially that last question, which requires a number for an answer -- and a specific number please.

Otherwise, your science is nothing more than hot air.

How can science do anything?

It's people doing things, often aided greatly by tools and knowledge from natural and social science.

To list everything done with the help of natural and social science in the third world would take a long time, it's a lot of factors from a wide array of different fields.

As for the last question, why are you putting the LHC and S.E.T.I. ahead of other costs? Why not take the weapon, car or fashion industry? Intelligence networks?

You're avoiding a point that was made in another thread.

Why is it that your alleged deity can completely resolve a football match according to the prayers of some overpaid first world naive Christian player and yet leave much greater problems unaddressed?

Please answer this, otherwise this god is nothing more than hot air.

You want "science" to address the problems (unspecified) of an entire continent, and you thing you're being specific? *gigglesnort*
I want [today's] science to crawl back in the hole it came out of; but for the record, I'd like some specific answers to specific questions please -- thank you.

How can science do anything?
It can certainly take a hike, or take our money to build garbage heaps with fancy names attached to them.
It's people doing things, often aided greatly by tools and knowledge from natural and social science.
Do you have any answers to my OP, please?
To list everything done with the help of natural and social science in the third world would take a long time, it's a lot of factors from a wide array of different fields.
In other words, no one has troubleshot their plight, have they?
As for the last question, why are you putting the LHC and S.E.T.I. ahead of other costs?
I can't think of a better example, can you?

(I did think of the Challenger after I made my post, but wouldn't have used it, anyway.)
Why not take the weapon, car or fashion industry? Intelligence networks?
Because I'm not asking them, I'm asking ... scientists here.

(If you don't know, just say so.)

You guys' evasion is noted.

Hey, at least I mentioned something - vaccination.

You haven't even addressed the original question at all.

Science's response may not be perfect, but what exactly is God doing?

You're struggling a bit here, AV.
I'm not the one being evasive, Cabal.

You guys like to put your science up on a pedestal, let's see it now.

The fact is though, science only works for those who can afford it, doesn't it?

(Watch this question get answered, folks -- but not any in the OP.)

To get specific answers, you need to ask specific questions. Do yo know what "specific " means? Try asking some specific questions, and we might all get somewhere.

Maybe we should just send the kids in Africa a football each? ^_^
Go ahead ... then we can see if it works.

If not, perhaps science should properly troubleshoot their problem.

What kind of question is that?

I've already given you what I think is the best answer - vaccination.

You want more? Clean water processing, greater contraception and family planning options.

The Haber process feeds a third of the world.

That's four points I've made now.

Are you still going to keep fumbling the question I asked you?
