• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

It's really common for people who are depressed, I can't say that I know how to get your tears back, sometimes it takes just letting go of everything, sitting down and telling God how you feel and why, everything that you have been thruogh in this world, everything that breaks your heart, and just letting go of everything that stops you from crying, fear, pride, anything, and sometimes it doesn't even take getting rid of anything but the baggage that weighs you down, the things that really get you! and it's hard, it's a lot and will take a lot out of you, and if you've supressed things soo much, then you may still not be able to cry, I've been trying to get ANY emotions back for eyars, so when I say it will take time and a lot of hard work, I really do mean it, but what I can say, is that it will be worth it! I don't know if this will have helped you or anyone else! but I hope it has. it was just a quick thought from my random mind!
God bless

Just think of the money we save on Kleenex!!!

Actually, the older I seem to get, the less the water flows. Even when somebody close passes, it just don't turn on the spout. The only time I seem to cry is during a touching scene in a movie, or when a pet dies.

I had that as a huge problem.. I still have it to some degree.. I think what made things change was the word of God and me taking Holy Communion which I as orthodox believe is the True body and blood of Jesus Christ.
And always going to God telling Him all my problems even if its the same prayer like Jesus did at Gethsemane... Remember Jesus said whoever is persistent like that man who goes to his friend at night (?) will get answer.. Whoever asks will receive.. God may test how much you really want this.
I hope what I said makes sense, is right , and is beneficial.

I feel that way sometimes too. Like I soooo wanna cry about something but it just doesn't come out for whatever reason. What I do is talk to one of my best friends or turn on some Praise and Worship and eventually the tears start to flow for me. But every person's different I think on that regards.

I've had that problem and still do. I once went 18 months without a tear. At the time, I was proud of myself, but now that I know all about the depression monster and how much worse not crying makes it...I'm not so smug about it.

Having a therapist that I was able to talk to and feel safe with and who learned how to find my tender points helped. I also found a couple songs that bring me to tears, and I save them for when I need to cry but can't on my own. That kind of cry doesn't feel quite as satisfying as the real, spontaneous thing, but it's better than having all that emotion bottled up inside.

A friend died a few weeks ago, and I was standing beside him as it happened. I've been to his funeral...I still haven't cried, and haven't even given myself much time to just think through and process what I witnessed that morning.

If you really really want to cry, you can always squirt saline into your eyes to make it look like you are crying or just squirt rubbing alcohol into them ;) ;)

Well, I'm kinda a easy crier, but that has happened to me before...I wanted to cry but I couldn't. Usually I keep my game face and/or just keep it in. :)

I used to be able to cry at anything and a year or so ago i had a waterfall experience where it all gushed out and since then cannot cry. it just wont come.

I guess it will come when the time is right. I think the only outlet i did have was SI but have been cut free for a month now.

I talk to God about it but still feel numb. Even listening to P & W.

:( thats called dry-eyed syndrome.they have a label for everything we do -don't they? just wondering if you have ADHA,and you're on any meds for that.they've been known to cause this. when I was using prozac-I had literally no emotions.not sad,not happy, nothing.I went through my robotic motions and in some ways, that was good.I couldn't cry,I still cannot cry about things unless I try other things to help that happen.:sigh:

This may sound strange, but I wish I was like you. I sob incessantly b/c of my depression. :(

That being said, I am truly sorry that you are going through this. I hope this can be righted eventually.
