This site should probably be helping me, but the mind just doesn't want to work tonight.

And This one doesn't work either....

ps. Have we answered this question yet or not?

Not yet, but I will give a hint. You can find the answer on the same site as you found the Martyrology.

Both those sites use the new calendar, and the procedure for Sundays in Ordinary time is different.

Buuuuut, since you brought it up... :D

What happens to the Sundays in Ordinary Time after Easter?

You are right about the 23 Sundays - so in the two weeks before Advent, which Sundays are celebrated?

Haven't I already answered this one  ?

If there should be more than twenty-four Sundays after Pentecost, the Masses after the twenty-third will be of those Sundays after Epiphany which were passed over, and the following is the order to be observed:

If there be twenty-five Sundays, on the twenty-fourth is said the Mass and Gospel of the Sixth Sunday after Epiphany.

If there be twenty-six Sundays, on the twenty-fourth is said the Mass and Gospel of the Fifth, and on the twenty-fifth, that of the Sixth after Epiphany.

If there be twenty-seven Sundays, on the twenty-fourth is said the Mass of the Fourth; and on the twenty-fifth, that of the Fifth; on the twenty-sixth, that of the Sixth after Epiphany.

If there be twenty-eight, on the twenty-fourth is said the Mass of thr Third; on the twenty-fifth, that of the Fourth; on the twenty-sixth, that of the Fifth; on the twenty-seventh, that of the Sixth after Epiphany.

The Mass and gospel of the twenty-fourth are always to be said on the last Sunday after Pentecost.

You answered what happens if there's 24-28 Sundays after Pentecost. But what happens when there's only 23?

That question's related to the other, There are 27 Sundays this year, but only two before Septuagesima (the First, replaced by the Holy Family, and the Second). So where's the Third Sunday go?

And how does all this work in the new calendar, with Ordinary Time, where there are 34 Sundays?

If you figure out where the Third Sunday after Epiphany went this year, you'll figure out what happens when there's only 23 Sundays after Pentecost.

And I was even nice and told you where the answer is. :)

Yeah yeah yeah. You told me to go look at the Roman Breviary site, but you haven't taught me how to navigate the ruddy site to follow the other months in the year.

PS. What on earth is this.

Sundays celebrated are 22th and 24th - 23rd is dropped.

Under the 1962 rubrics, this is right.

But before then, the 23rd Sunday was still celebrated (just like the Third Sunday after Epiphany this year). Where does it go? :)

 Does it become an 'Anticipated' on the preceding Saturday - just like this?

Anticipated Third Sunday after Epiphany
Semidouble

Commemoration of Ss Vincent & Anastasius, Mm

Everything is said as in the Psalter for Saturday, with the following exceptions:

Matins
Invitatory, Hymn, Antiphons & Psalms from Saturday Psalter
In I Nocturn Lessons I and II beginning of St Paul's Epistle to Galatians (from 3rd Sunday after Epiphany)
Lesson III beginning of St Paul's Epistle to Ephesians (from Wednesday after 3rd Sunday after Epiphany) with Responds from Anticipated Sunday

Lauds
Ant on Bened proper
Commemoration of Ss Vincent & Anastasius, Mm
Suffrage

Prime
Dominical Preces
Martyrology : Announcement of Septuagesima from table of movable feasts
Chapter of Sunday

Vespers
Of the following day (Chapter and Ant on Magnif proper)
Commemoration of St Raymund of Pennaforte, C
Commemoration of St Emerentiana, VM
Suffrage
At the end of Vespers, after the V. Benedicámus Dómino and its Respond are added 2 Alleluias, which is thenceforth omitted until Holy Saturday

After Vespers on this day at the Opening Versicles of each Hour is said Laus tibi Dómine, Rex ætérnæ glóriæ instead of Allelúja. This is said until Maundy Thursday exclusive.

In the temporal Office until Easter is omitted the Te Deum and in its place is said a ninth (or third) Respond. Lauds is said according to the second scheme. At Sunday Prime instead of Confitémini are said the Psalms Dóminus regnávit and Jubiláte, and on weekdays the fourth Psalm is added as noted in the Psalter.

At Vespers during the week the the Ant. on Magnif. is proper.

Yep. If there's only 52 weeks in the year, the missing Sunday is anticipated on the previous Sunday. This applies to the Sundays after Epiphany before Septuagesima as well as the Twenty-Third Sunday after Pentecost, when there are only 23 Sundays.

The Twenty-Fourth Sunday after Pentecost is always celebrated the week before Advent. The Gospel for that week is Jesus's prophecy about the destruction of Jerusalem, from Matthew.

The Gospel from the following week, the First Sunday of Advent, is the same reading, but from Luke.

And, interestingly, the Gospels for the Sundays of Advent are actually backwards. In what way?

Because the Gospel reading said at Christmas is the beginning of the Gospel, and Advent is the Anticipation of the celebration.

I meant in what way are the Gospel readings for the four Sundays backwards?

And another question: excluding feasts, how many different Gospel readings are there during Advent?
