1) not all Baptists consider themselves Protestant
2) With or without the Catholic Councils we would still have the bible and should only feel indebted to God. (IMHO)

Those 2 things aside... we are all, by God's grace, his children and can learn from each other.

On point 1, yes, that's true. Regarding point two, I think the councils shouldn't be considered "Roman Catholic," per se. The first council of Nicea, for example, was ecumenical.

When I refer to Catholic theologians, I'm referring to the later ones who appeared in the early middle ages, well before the Reformation. I think this is before certain doctrinal errors crept into the Catholic Church. At that time, many Catholic theologians were staunch defenders of the faith, and wrote many words to defend the doctrine of the Trinity.

And of course, don't forget that reformers such as Martin Luther never truly wanted to leave the Catholic Church.

It is obviously a hard concept for our finite minds to grasp but I do believe in the Trinity that God Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit are all one and at the same time individual entities. The best picture (this is not original with me I read it in "Know WHAT you believe" which is a great book!) is in Jesus Christ's baptism where you see Jesus in the water the Holy Spirit descending as a dove and God's voice from Heaven where they're all separate.

Is it right for man to say to another that they can't be Christian because they cant say 100% Jesus is God?
