  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hey everyone

does anybody here use photo-management software to keep track of digital images? such software incl. adobe photoshop album, imatch, etc etc.

i personally use picasa, which was recently bought by Google (the guys that brought us the numero uno search engine on the planet, Gmail, and Desktop Search). it's free, superb graphics, effects, and very, very user friendly (as with other google products)

it scans your harddrive (or just the my documents folder) for images, and sorts them chronologically.. felt awkward at first, especially since i'm used to categorically sorting out my pictures using windows folders, but after a few minutes you'll get the hang of it, and some might actually like the idea..

i used to own adobe photoshop album, but after trying out picasa, i'm better of with this one..

anybody who's got a lotta pictures in their computer ought to try it out.. it's free, uses not so much computer resource, good looking, and allows basic editing features (i still use PS7 for serious editing though)..

anyone who's already using it, feel free to add your own comments and share your experiences with everyone else here..

take care, and God bless you all!

I'm using album at the moment. It seems like a pretty basic program, its organizational capacity is being seriously taxed at only about 3000 photos! I'll look at picasa if I've got time, but quickly, how well does it organize photos? Album forces you to organize them by date too, but also allows catagories for sorting... My question is how does picasa's sorting/catagorizing compare to PS Album?

Also, does it allow easy backup of all your files, or would I then have to backup everything manually?

Judging from the few times I've used it, it doesn't, but in response to your other question, I find its organisation and the fact it does a fresh scan of your hard drive each time the program is started enough for me to have stopped using Photoshop Album. And the editing features are far superior to what Album offers. I can't add much more to what the OP said - I've been looking for a no-nonsense program that'll do its on work without prompting me to do anything. This is by far the best photo organisation program that I have come across!

I am finding it in every way superior to Photoshop Album. It does seem to force you to organize your pictures by file (rather than just on the album as I had been doing) but that's not a huge issue.

Further, it does allow VERY simple backups of the whole database, with many options. It is easy to backup to either a hard drive or discs. Well done and free!

As a very new user to the program, I recommend it fully. Having been fully immersed in Photoshop Album, I know for certain that Album can never live up to the free Picasa!

I tried Picassa and what I love about it is that you can undo any of the editing you do to any piture! It never changes your original file, but if you make a change to a picture and want to make it permenent, you export that picture to a folder and your original still stays the same.
