  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I just want to preface this by saying this is not going to be a debate thread of whether trick or treating is good/bad, etc. Just a fun thread about trick or treating. :)

So as Halloween nears I always think about what I'll dress up as, or sadly what I'll dress my dogs as. :p And it got me wanting to pick your brains (No halloween pun intended!)

Did you go trick or treating as a child? do you still now?

If you have kids, do you take them?

What was your first costume that you can remember you wore? That your children wore if you have them?

Do you dress your pets up for Halloween?

Yes I went as a child..I *think* my first costume was a pumpkin, but I don't remember... I know I was one amazing princess one year (my mom made the costume - well, she made all my costumes really :D) .....side note - one year, two of my friends and I were Cat in the Hat, Thing 1, and Thing 2; and the next year we were the three blind mice - So Fun! :D

I don't have kids, but I have taken nieces and nephews trick or treating...but mostly I looooove to pass out candy - I love seeing all the precious children dressed up in cute costumes....(but I also can't stand seeing preteens and teenagers dressed up as awful things that scare the little ones...ack!)

I don't have pets, nor would I dress them up if I had them....ack

.. 'nother side note - I am trying to convince my brother and sister-in-law that their family needs to go as Shrek, Fiona and the ogre babies...it's perfect - they have a boy and a girl - it would be complete ^_^

Hi, Jenny --

My wife and I don't have any children, and we don't celebrate Halloween; but as a child, we did dress up and go Trick-or-Treating.

We (my sister and I) cut holes in a pillow and went as ghosts! ^_^

Back then, it wasn't as dangerous, with people putting stuff in apples and so on.

All-in-all, it was; but for the record, we don't do it today.

:)

Mary, it sounds like you had some fun costumes!

I don't remember what my very first costume was, I'd have to ask my mom. But I have one pic of me when I was around 3-4 as a cheerleader. Cheerleading outfit, and pom poms to boot! :D

I know I was also a princess 3 years in a row because I liked my outfit so much. haha

AV, Yeah things are totally different now with how safe everything is. When I have kids I'll probably take them trick or treating, but I'd definitely feel safer in a group, rather than letting them go by themselves.

Did you go trick or treating as a child? do you still now? Yes I did as a child. Yes, I go now because of my 2 year old.

If you have kids, do you take them? Yep! :)

What was your first costume that you can remember you wore? That your children wore if you have them? I wore a witch costume... I was always a witch... The joke was it matched the way I behaved *shrug* and this is Gabriella's first Halloween...

Do you dress your pets up for Halloween? If I had a dog, yes...

I had a friend once who lived across the street from me, and he was going away and asked me to watch his car for him, so no one would soap the windows.

After Trick-or-Treat was over, I took a bar of soap across the street and wrote: NO ONE SOAPED YOUR WINDOWS on his windshield!

^_^

We always went for hours on end, even when it got pitch dark out.

Nowadays, they start in the daylight, and it's over in about an hour and a half.

Yeah, that's what I've noticed. My dad gives out candy, and we get a lot of trick or treaters around 5:30 - 6pm, around 8pm is deader than a doornail.

I have never gone "Trick O' Treating" in my life. My parents never let me and I guess I can see why they wouldn't. So for a HUGE portion of my life Oct. 30th was just another day where I had an excuse to let my black kitty cat stay with me indoors. It wasn't until we moved to this new church that had a festival thing as a Halloween alternative, that we started to "celebrate" the day.

So my first costume was a black cat ( I have a thing for panthers). It was simple, but a lot of fun because I had never dressed up before. Well, I once had a costume party but it wasn't very fun for reasons that I'm too lazy to get into. :p
This year I'll be going as a forest elf. ^_^ I'm SUPER excited to hand out cotton candy as an elf. :coo:

You'd die of a sugar overload since it's free! ^_^ Seriously, we get this HUGE line of kids that are constantly coming for cotton candy. It's never ending! :D I'm surprised no parents have complained haha.

I went Trick-or-Treating as a kid, I have no idea what my first costume was, though. The first one I can remember was Thumbelina..I think. I remember it was a pretty blue and green dress with the old cheap mask that went with it. I go Trick-or-Treating now because I have a 5 year old daughter. :) She's going as a fairy this year. Her first costume was as a tootsie roll, she was only 7 months old though, so we pretty much just took her to family to show her costume.

I still dress up! My friends and I tend to go raid Walmart on Halloween... :p
