  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm still waiting for a Christian to come explain why the Levitical ban on wearing clothing of the other gender is any more relevant today than wearing clothing made of mixed fibers, something Christians commonly do today and is also banned by Leviticus? Again, Biblically, what reason is there for Christians to condemn people who wear clothing of the opposite gender?

Well, the old rules were washed away. In the New Testament, there is a lot said about charity, love, kindness, giving, accepting the poor, the meek, the outcasts... but very little about how a person should dress. In other words, practically all the rules regarding the way people should dress are based on what people wanted others to wear.

Sorry I couldn't be more entertaining :tutu:

I don't care so much about entertaining. I've just never seen an explanation of why Christians believe transvestism is a sin which does not involve the use of Levitical law. Yet somehow the fact it is no more Biblically proscribed than mixed fiber clothing or shellfish doesn't stop most Christians from condemning it anyway.

I thought that this was no longer valid because of the new covenant?

Jesus did not come to do away with the law.
The law still defines sin.

However, after Jesus' death a new covenant was indeed available to those who accept Jesus as savior

But, the new covenant is not a license to sin:
Romans 6: 1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Do you wear mixed fiber clothing? That is identified as sin. What about eating shellfish like shrimp or lobster? God called that an abomination. Strange how you claim Leviticus identifies sin yet it is not followed by Christians.

You mean
Deut 22: 11 Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.
I don't mix wool & linen :)
Polyester is a plastic.

The English translaton is a bit lacking there.
Then how does it follow that the translation from the passages against transvestitism aren't the same way? This is a passage from your supposedly infailable holy book, are you suggesting that it really is failable?

You might also look at Leviticus 19:19.
" 'Keep my decrees.
" 'Do not mate different kinds of animals.
" 'Do not plant your field with two kinds of seed.
" 'Do not wear clothing woven of two kinds of material.
This verse also raises the issue of why Christians use mules (mating a female horse and a male donkey)?
And you completely ignored the question about shrimp.

Simple.
I read the original Hebrew or Greek text.

But the important question is, do you think it is wrong for a Christian to eat prawns or lobster or mussels or squid or octopus or whale meat?
