Was it not enough, the testimony of Christ to finish the work and to cut it short in righteousness ?
That Jesus finished the work the Father gave Him to do. ( and the works bear witness of Him that the Father sent Him, and not be as others who come in heir own name and do none of the same works)
Even this thread is about this exactly, of the transfiguration and Jesus on the way to Jerusalem. ( as Luke 9:31 states, they spoke together of the same one matter to be ACCOMPLISHED AT JERUSALEM/HIS DECEASE.
Luke 9:31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
Jesus finished the work, and the works He did confirmed who He was, and the Lord confirmed His apostles by them going forth and the Lord WORKING with them, and apostle Paul.
Acts 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:
Mark 16:20 And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.
Apostle Paul shows they likewise approved themselves as the ministers of God by their afflictions, distresses, the same works that Jesus Christ did.
2 Corinthians 6:4 But in all things approving ourselves as the ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,
Apostle Paul also shows how he sought proof if the ones hearing, also were obedient in all things.
2 Corinthians 2:9 For to this end also did I write, that I might know the proof of you, whether ye be obedient in all things.
Philippians 2:22 But ye know the proof of him, that, as a son with the father, he hath served with me in the gospel.
Next we are told that prophecies will fail, tongues shall cease, knowledge shall vanish away.
It is the confirming of the prophets to be cast out of the land.
1 Corinthians 13:8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
Why were prophecies to be done away ?
Because of man knowing ( knowledge) in part, and prophesying likewise in part.
What was perfect had to come, to have what is in part ( prophecies from prophets) to be done away.
We are as a child in understanding, but when we can become a man we put away childish things.
Looking through a glass darkly, is knowing in part, is prophesy, which is in part, is understanding childish things.
What abides now is faith, it is hope, it is charity, charity is the greatest of those three, as charity is to put on the bond of perfection. ( that is when that which is perfect is come to us)
1 Corinthians 13:9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.
13 And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity.
Colossians 3:14 And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness.
