Transferinf credits...

Ok, I know I don't post much in this section... But have a serious question I want to ask.

First off, I am in my first year of college. I am an elementary education major. My husband and I are talking seriously abiout moving to a different state once when this semester is over with. (Lots of issues that I don't want to get into right now as to the reason for the move.)

I am just wondering, for those of you who have transfered to a different college... How difficult was it to get the credits to transfer? Did they all transfer, or did you have to retake some classes?

I'm worried about this, because school has always been difficult for me. And I really don't want to retake any classes that I have already passed. They were tough enough the first time. (And I really don't want to have to retake any of my math classes...)

So what has your experience been with getting credits to transfer to a different college?

I have not personally transferred credits, but as long as your school is regionally or nationally accredited, there should be no problem at all transferring them. If it's not, it'll be up to your new school to decide whether they will accept them or not, and perhaps (if your current school is not well known) to convince them to accept your credits.

Someone who's actually transferred credits will hopefully be able to give you more specific advice but AFAIK as long as your current school is reputable it shouldn't be a problem.

I recently transferred from Kaplan University online to Liberty University online, and all of my classes transferred in. However, Kaplan uses a five credit system for their classes, while Liberty uses a three credit system, so I have fewer credits at Liberty than I did at Kaplan. It all evens out, though, because I only need 120 credits for Liberty, I think, and at Kaplan I needed 180 for the same degree. What it boils down to is that my education is going to be a lot cheaper now. I would call any school you're thinking about attending and ask them how transfer credits are handled. They will explain if there is any difference in how the credits are awarded, as well as if there are any classes you can not transfer.

It depends on the school...is it public or private? two year or four year? Some colleges have limits...the private ones tend to have stricter limits on credits transferring in...but most of the time, you don't lose too many credits transferring in...

All credits will not transfer. Your best bet it to complete a degree and transfer the whole thing. I realize that you may not be able to make that happen. Most colleges have "equivalencies" on their websites, though. (Just search for it.) It'll show you what classes transfer to a specific school.
