I know my answer on this particular idea, but I want to know what everyone else thinks.

Is touching someone of the opposite sex (whom you are attracted to) wrong or sinful if it is done before you are married? This includes hand holding, hugs, kisses...

The reason I've been given (for it being wrong) by some people is that these things lead to more...

I, personally, wouldn't say that the things you've mentioned are sinful, according to the Bible:

the hug~which is an act that can mean anything from 'I've missed you!!' to 'I appreciate you for who you are' to 'I'm sorry you're going through that' etc etc..

the hand holding~which is an act that can symbolize anything from 'I don't want you to fall on the ice, so hold onto me for support, mom' ;) to 'you're my boyfriend & I think you're pretty sweet' etc etc.

the kiss~ah yes...are you referring to a holy kiss??...

but really, I think that people who've told you these things have meant well, Lovesherald b/c in some ways, that stuff could lead to other acts, which may or may not include sexual ones. I think the people that have told you that such things are 'sinful' are perhaps just intending to mean that it may not be moral to act upon these things, considering that the other person may not be strong enough to resist you, sexually..or that he just wouldn't be clued-in & understand that you aren't interested in more than what you've just described. I dunno, though...I'd be interested in seeing what your responses will be...and if someone could point to a certain peice of Scripture that supports their claims b/c if there is such a verse (or more than one), I'd love to check them out. :)

**if someone could point to a certain peice of Scripture that supports their claims ***

Well, one person referred to the KJV bible...oh, I can't exactly remember...when it talks about marriage it says something like "It is best for a man not to touch a woman."

Just to clarify...this question just arose after a discussion this person and I had.

Im a very polite ,mannerist, friendly but can bluntly honest ,emotional person in real life and have no insecurities or hangups with perception or how I express myself to the other sex , if what stops the other to think that there is something wrong with these kinds of expressions then obviously they have a sense of insecurity and or either jealous.

so if touching is wrong a docter who dose sergoury is comiting a sin for savin someones life. Now that just dosnt make since. Touching is not wrong. The act dosnt lead to anything more, that the persons lack of self control that leads to other things.
I think they mean touching in a romantic way i.e. holding hands, arm around the waist etc.

The hugging and the kissing and the holding hands:cool:. They all sound pretty safe. It may be true that these things can lead to deeper and more dangerous things. What is important to remember is that it is up to you and your self control. You need to know your limits and don't push them. You also need to know your date's limits. This is an important thing for two people to discuss. And if you think things are going too far, then stop. If she thinks things are going to far, then stop.

Alright here is my story on why I believe touching is wrong. I used to be a young person and I remember believing I could do everything and that touching wasn't a sin or anything. Well my thoughts on the subject soon changed. I was with a girl who was pretty good looking, nice body, nice face, she was teh works. On teh second date I wanted a little peek-a-poo at her you know whats and she firmly said no. I got angry and I went far beyond the touching factor. I raped her like you wouldn't believe. I penetrated her in every place you could imaging. She cried and cried. All I could say to her was 'shut up and learn you place, push harder!' Well this ended up with me choking her to death while she was sucking the monster. I got landed in prision for this act. Now I was sorry for what I did and I thought that the touching I did was a little sinful but I had no idea what was in store for me. Just my luck, I got put in a high security cell with a large, fat, black man named Jaquice. Now I don't know what you all do to pass the time for 23 years in prision but he showed me a whole new world. He violated me in so many ways and I can't begin to describe the penetration I felt. Now I was lucky and I got to leave the prision after a long 23 years of my life. I got a chance to be forgiven for the acts of sodomy I commited in my prision cell, I became a Catholic priest. Now it went alright for a while but strangly enough, I started to miss the things that violated me so. And in a society where we are discriminated against, the only option I had left was people whos brains hadn't developed yet adn I could get satisfaction from them licking my privates. This went on for a while but I was caught in the act once again. Now I am the catholic priest in another prision and I must say, I fit in quite nicly here.

I believe the bible talks about touching during menstruation...read leviticus, it's the lovely book of laws.
But, isn't this particular part of Scripture talking about married men who lay with their wives when they're menstruating?? perhaps, I'm wrong though...

oh, and Lovesherald, you're not crazy, woman!!! :holy:

btw, what were the verses being talked about by that person you'd been talking to on this topic??

I couldn't remember at first but I do now. KJV 1 corinthians 7:1....

I read the new living translation, so it simply says, "Now about the questions you asked in your letter. Yes, it is good to live a celibate life. But because there is so much sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman should have her own husband.

Supposedly the KJV says something like "A man should not touch a woman" or "it is best that a man not touch or woman" or something similar.

To best understand this passage, you need to look at the historical context, who Paul was talking to, and why.

It would be important to consider the context here..considering, Paul is referring to a specific topic that one was speaking to him about..it is imperative that we find this letter he was referring to...

Oh yes, I've had sex with my mum, my sister, my father, my brother, the guys and girls at my Antioch youth group, the people I used to go clubbing with based on that reasoning. I must be the baddest guy in Brisbane for that matter. ^_^ :p

Nah, I'm just kidding. Still a virgin after all these years. Even the Bible tells Christian brothers to "greet each other with a brotherly kiss". So, would you kiss your local priest, pastor or bishop because that's what it says in the Bible? What now, has touching come to equate sex too?!! Sheesh. No wonder I'm shy!

Did Judas' kissing of Jesus lead him to have sex with him? Did Mary Magdalenes kissing of Jesus' feet lead to more? No, it didn't!
